Newegg and recertified merchandise

I was looking at an item on Newegg, very reasonably priced, listed a recertified. I attempted to contact newegg as I don't know what that indicates. Who is doing the certifying, what is the warranty, etc. ? I haven't received a reply. Does anyone know what this means?

From the Newegg FAQ -
Quote:
What are Recertified products?

Products described as “Recertified” are products which have been retested to ensure compliance with original manufacturer specifications in function and for purposes related to warranty.

Recertified products typically:

• Have never been used, where the outside factory seal has been broken. This can be due to a cancelled order for example.

• Are items returned to the original manufacturers that were used in field tests, sales displays or demonstrations.

•Products that have been returned for warranty service, which have been brought to manufacturer specifications.

• Are products that have been returned for reasons other than defect. These items are sent to the manufacturer for inspection and testing. The passing products are then repackaged as recertified.

• Are items where the box was damaged in shipment and is then returned to the manufacturer.

• May include a limited manufacturer warranty – see items product page on the website for details

What is the return policy for open box merchandise? Do open box items offer any additional return policy coverage?

Newegg.com offers a 15-day refund-only return policy for all open box merchandise. Remember if you purchase a Open Box product you will receive an OEM BAREBONE item, meaning you will only receive the item itself. Accessories are NOT INCLUDED with Open Box products, even if the missing accessory is required for the item to function properly.

Who provides the lifetime warranty coverage mentioned in some Newegg.com item descriptions?

If our site states that a product is supported by a "Lifetime Warranty", that product's warranty coverage is provided by the manufacturer of the product. However Newegg.com offers a return policy detailed here.

DennisC10853 is infamous around these parts
Newegg Open Box

I have bought many things from Newegg "Open Box" and unlike some people think, Newegg does not take the accessories out of the box and just ship the main unit. I have purchased motherboards, wireless router, external hard drive enclosure, etc. and every accessory that originally came with the unit was there. The reason Newegg makes that statement and has that policy is to protect themselves from the units that have been sent back to them without certain things that were originally included because they will not replace those items. It is a crap shoot but most of the time you will come out ok.
