U-bid any good?? or scam

I've been on ubid.com checking out some prices. Which btw don't seem too bad if you don't get out bidded. Is this place any good or are you always's gonna get out bid at the last minute if it's too cheap. I havn't seen anyone mention them on here so was wondering if their on the up and up. Been looking for a laptop and the bids I saw were about 2/3 the normal price. Any input on them is appreciated.

I bought several things off there before. They are on the up and up, but there seems to be a lot of snipers there as well(last minute bidders) just like any other auction. So the chances are good that if the price is low, there are a lot of folks waiting to bid during the last few minutes. Best thing to do is wait for an auction with a large quantity, and keep you bid in the top ten up until the last half hour IMO.

Good luck

Jer

Yes, there are quite a few last minute bidders on ubid. I have friends that get stuff from their and haven't had a problem yet.

I have purchased many many things from Ubid. Basically I have been happy with every transaction I have made but one. Out of about 65 to 70 transactions, every product has been as advertised except one. One bid was for new Seagate 423451 SCSI drives, and one was defective. The warranty was 1 year with manufacturer. After I had contacted Seagate, I found that the one defective drive wasn't new, like the condition for which I had bid on the drives. After contacting Ubid, I returned the drives (for which they paid all applicable shipping), and got a full refund. I could say that by and large, they are good. I had one bad experience, but considering how much I have done business with them, I guess you could say that their record is still good.

You can get some good deals on there if you are patient. However, they continue to get you on the shipping charges.
Most systems ship at around $55.00 (too much for 30 lbs)

I agree with Cruez on there S+H. I dislike the fact that any company makes a profit on S+H but everybody seems to be doing (newegg is an exception). I mean 9.99 intial charge plus 0.99 per pound! I was lucky to find Ubid 3 years ago when the deals were better and S+H
The best way to win!

1) Try to be the first or second bidder when the auction
opens. This used to be easy as the same product would
be offered for days in a row and the closing point of the
auction would be at the same time every day. Look for
the next auction to start at 30 to 45 minutes after the
close of the auction of the product your looking for.
2) IF you do manage to get the first bid or two do not bid
again untill the last 5 minutes of the auction. I've seen
people come back and bid 5 or 6 times during the course
of an auction. This only drives the price up.
3) Remember that if somebody has a bid higher then yours
but you bid before him (timewise) you can bid the same
price and beat him out because you initialy bid before him
SORRY
4) And finally keep hitting the refresh button during the last
10 minutes of the auction. The auction will end 10 minutes
after the last bid but they go longer (I think this depends
if Ubid made the money they wanted)

Good Luck WB

Ubid's strange RMA system

I RMA'd something last Feb and Ubid didn't post the credit as they said.

Contacted them again and again--each time like starting from new.

After four such 1/2 to 3/4 hr. calls with hold upon hold--was given "supervisor" "Nick" who admitted that time starts when Customer notices the non -credit and notifies UBID of this !

Huh ! What if I didn't notice or had put it on credit card with 30-turnaround ?

"there was a delay !"

Right ! I am telling him there was a non-credit and he tells me the Co. is having a delay ?

Today they sent me by e-mail an x-tra $38 Coupon. Seems like I have to buy more and they promise they will return $38 of it.

$38 was the amount of original RMA [b]which still is not in my Account !/B]

Funny money for hush money? Will I get the Coupon money if I buy more ? Or will I have yet another credit I have to watch like a hawk.

My advice to anybody RMA'ing at uBid: Check back to see if they ever credited it. Four times over six weeks is a lot of reminders with no 5-day credit. It is easy to RMA a purchase to shut you the Customer up. But actually crediting the money costs...errr...money.

Do I or Don't I spend more money at uBid in the blind hope they will this time return the coupon money ?

(YOU pay the FULL amount, and AFTER it's shipped, you get credited the Coupon.)
If you notify them.
If they keep their word this time.
Which they haven't five times.

DOOOG

Good question.
Questionable business practices in my opinion.
