Need info on buying memory

I was all set to buy some memory modules from Crucial but had to cancel at the last minute due to their processing. They wanted my SS# and birthdate! I refuse to give that to anyone on the internet. What other brand of RAM and seller do you recommend?

So Crucial wants crucial information!! If this is true, I urge all consumer to stop supporting this outfit..

I just placed a order with them and there was no request for SS# nor birfday.. Volunteer, would you please provided addition information regarding your experience!!

I got to the last? page and they asked me to confirm my credit card by entering my birthdate and the last four digits of my SS#. This I won't give out. Either they have changed their policies or they were nabbed by a rouge site. I may email them and ask.

Memory

The first question is, why would anyone buy anything from a manufacturer when the retail stores are cheaper?
As has been stated, NewEgg has Crucial, OCZ, Kingston and other quality memory.
No birthdate or SS#.

In theory, if someone stole your card - they Couldn't answer the two very common questions.

The last four digits are worthless to someone without the first five digits
