Advice- Visionman
Hi guys! I'm looking to buy (or perhaps try to build) myself a new gaming comp. I would much prefer to buy because I have never built one before. However, I do have a good idea of how everything goes together as I took most of the classes in an A+ course. (had to go to England so missed the last two classes and test) What I am NOT well versed in is setting up a HD- formatting and such. So..I went looking for a decent place to build one for me and I have been drawn to this Visionman. Anyone have any input on them? Or can you reccomend a decent place to get a lower priced gaming comp? I wanted to stay under say.. $1200 or so.
Thanks very much in advance.

They only have six reviews here, all but one gives them a dissatisfied rating. Not a good start,I'd give them a pass. For a good gaming system at reasonable prices,I'd check out builders like AVAdirect,KC Computers,Maingear, and Velocity Micro.

How about Alienware? Overpriced? I've been "building" a comp at all these sites and I am seriously getting so confused! I love the look of the Alienware but I'm trying not to be "a girl" (cuz I am!) about it and just be sucked into a pretty look.

Have you tried the shopping section here at RR? http://shop.resellerratings.com/.
PS.
Alienware is now owned by Dell.

I have actually- and it all appears to be dominated by HP of which I am not a fan. I didn't know that about Alienware..*sigh* there goes the neighbourhood I guess. Dell is not one of my favorites either. I've owned two now and as I've leared more and more about comps I see where they slip in the cheapo components.

I'd say KC Computers out of those previously listed. as well as
Tastycomputers.com ( http://www.resellerratings.com/store/Tasty_Computers)
My son and a coworker have both bought machines from Tasty (although around 2 years ago) and the experience for both was exceptional. Small outfit, but great components and service.
I think Velocity Micro is having growing pains, now that they're selling at Best Buy stores.
You might also consider getting a bare bones system from the dreaded Dell/HP, then upgrade parts to your liking. If you go the mass-production route, be sure to wipe the hard drive and clean install everything again, as they tend to bloat the Windows installation with lots of stupid trialware and stuff.

You might also check out Digital Storm. They, like Maingear get very high marks for customer service and support after the sale. Also, Digital Storm seems to have more product to choose from than Maingear, from low priced to very high priced gaming computers.
I've pretty much settled on either Maingear or Digital Storm for my next computer-mainly based on their customer support.

I'd suggest building your own. You said you might be interested in the idea. It's not as hard as you would think. Plus, you have us, your faithful Indian guides to lead you. It's up to you but there is alot of satisfaction in building your own (and an indescribable amount of grief when you hit the big button the first time and nothing happens). Lots of fun either way |
