The Customer Service Hall of Shame

These companies topped a list of more than 400 nominated by MSN Money readers. An MSN Money-Zogby poll ranked the 'Bottom 10,' and the 'winner' is . . .

We asked readers to tell us about their worst customer-service experiences, and more than 3,000 responded within 24 hours of our request. Now, with the help of pollster Zogby International, we are introducing MSN Money's Customer Service Hall of Shame, a ranking of the companies whose service is most often rated "poor" by consumers.

The results are in, and one company ranks below all the rest: Sprint Nextel, one of the country's largest wireless-phone carriers.


A remarkable 40% of people who had an opinion of Sprint's customer service said it was poor. And Sprint was hardly the exception. All of the companies that ranked in our Bottom 10 had customer service rated "poor" by at least 20% of the respondents who expressed an opinion about their service.

You'd think that people unhappy with their service would just switch companies, right? Or that 40% of Sprint's 53 million customers would take their business elsewhere. Not so fast.

I will be posting material about the other nine as I get the energy. But I find this a truly remarkable coincidence that I posted a new thread about SPRINT on on Monday and later that night came across a lead article in Consumer Reports about Best and Worst Cell Phone Carriers and SPRINT was voted the lowest.

Now a Zogby Consumer Poll is revived on the front page of MSN concurs and finds SPRINT the Worst of the Worst with a consumer dissatifaction at 40% that was literally 10% or a third more as the Second Worst.

None of the companies on the list surprise me,except maybe that Verizon didn't place higher on the list,their DSL service is horrible.I've been tempted to switch to Comcast cable internet,except that their high place on the list is well deserved based on their television service alone,if I had a nickle for every time my cable went out I'd be rich!And if this poll hadn't been taken by MSN,I sure Microsoft itself would have had a place on the list thanks to their wonderful new Vista OS.

The Zogby Poll

was intended as solely a CUSTOMER SERVICE rating of the WORST TEN out of 400 Nominess.

There are of course, other factors, such as the quality of signal, interference, dropped or interrupted service, that was not covered --although I suppose they may have influenced to some degree people's rating of "Customer Service"

The Consumer Reports review of the Cell phone carriers alone, took into consideration overtly three different aspects of a Cellular Company overall service, such as their technology and delivery as you mentioned,michaels39 not just Customer Service.
