Dear Mr Bellows...
There has been no evidence produced that your company is a scam artist nor that you have been libeled or slandered....I personally would not deal with any company in your industry because because of all the problems I have heard...The tele-a-marketing industry has had it share of problems....

Area Circulation Scam
OK - this company called me today. They had my "direct line" phone number at work, as well as my work address. Same thing, I had this really nice young man who introduced himself as Ethan, a brand new employee who offered a diamond watch, etc....entry into a sweepstakes... then transferred me to a supervisor. Long story short, I fell for the magazine deal of getting 4 magazines for 3.84 per week. I thought that was for a one year subscription, didn't find out til much later in the conversation that it was a FIVE year subscription & they were going to charge my credit card 62.40 per month for 16 months! When I then told them NO - we were mysteriously disconnected. I called my credit card & was told they had inquired on my account while I was on the phone with them. The name on the inquiry was "Universal Promotions" with no contact information. The company name they gave me on the phone was "P. R. S.". After reading similar stories, I now know that this company is in fact Area Circulation. I cancelled my credit card & was advised to contact the credit bureau & put an alert on my report that my identity had been compromised. I was also told by one of the magazines that they were selling that this company is widely know and is on a "Naughty List" for bad business practices & fradulent information......Boy am I dumb or what?

Area Circulation Employee Response
That isn't good news, but i've got to let you know that you have some facts wrong.
We do not offer a diamond watch, so you were not dealing with Area Circulation. I do know of a company that offers a diamond watch, though I can't say there aren't more than one of them.
I'm sorry for your experience, but please do check your facts and find the real company. It hurts our company and out clients when faulty information like this put on the web.
You can read my other posts for the full story of our company.
Sincerely,
Burt Bellows

Area Circulation Response
I don't follow how someone making false statements they claim are factual, is not commiting Libel. Preying on the elderly and dumb would be a horrible thing to do, and that is what Cornstalk claimed.
I do have some good news though, another customer was taken care of due to our recent attempts to contact them through sites like this. We are making progress. Quote:

Area Circulation
If I have erroneously named your company, I apologize. I actually came by that "Company Name" information from numerous sources. The similarities were a sweepstakes entry and a "mens or womens diamond watch" and questions involving what your "hobbies or interests" are plus confirmation that you are a mastercard / visa / discover card holder. I was also given an order confirmation number that co-incided with another source naming the company as Area Circulation. Again, if your company is not this company, I apologize. I would be interested to know if the company names "Universal Promotions" or PRS mean anything to you.

I didn't read this one either. Quote:

Please understand that as you have never been a customer of Area Circulation, we have no ability to work things out and make you happy.
We have tried to give you information about our company and offered direct contact so you could see for yourself that we are a legitimate long term company who's business it is to sell magazines.
Everything I've said on this site is absolutely true, but your replies indicate you believe it is moral and right to say whatever you think as though it were true. If you are not aware, speaking as you are is illegal and actionable on our part. The law does not look kindly upon financially damaging statements, or harming someone's reputation (the owner, in this case).
So since we can't fix things directly, I would like to get your legal contact information so our lawyers can talk to each other, and help you decide the best course of action.
I will be petitioning this website to shut down this thread, and/or your access. It seems they are reasonable in wanting to find the truth, so my hope is high that they will prevent further damage to our company from your slanderous statements that we are scam artists and prey on the elderly, etc.
If anyone would like to contact me directly, please use 'accountant@areacirculation.net', and I will provide whatever information required to demonstrate our companies legitimacy and show good faith.
Peter, If you could provide your real name and legal information, that will speed things along in getting the issue resolved. You mentioned you already had a lawyer, so I assume you could let us talk to him as soon as possible.
I will be taken out of the picture at that time, and the owner and his lawyers will be making the decisions.
Sincerely,
Burt Bellows
Area Circulation

Area Circulation called my poor elderly mother's cell phone. Good thing I was there to keep them from fast talking her into outrageous charges on her credit card.
Mom thanked me and baked me some cookies. Quote:

Area Circulation / Mr. Burt Bellows
In your earlier post you stated "you know of companies" that offer the diamond watch - etc.........Who are they???? I would really like to see
if I can get to the bottom of who called me! They called me at work and
had my work address....since the phone call was disconnected just prior to
the "end" - are they going to just send this stuff to my work address? What
do I do about it? I cancelled my credit card - they won't be getting paid -
Do I just drop it? What would be the business practice for your company? If the call was not fully completed, would you consider a "partial" phone agreement sufficient?

We have a recent recording from the number I posted. They are offering the diamond watch now.
If Area Circulation does not offer the diamond watch, then they should go after the people at that number that is posing as Area Circulation and stop the funny arm chair legal threats on the Interweb. Quote:
