fotoconnection buys reviews

I recently purchased from Foto Connection. Unfortunately, I did not do my homework, and found afterwards that they are the epitome of a hard sell operation, with a variety of names. In fact, the deal turned out well and their price was good--but there was a hard sell and hoops to jump through.

I wrote a decent but lukewarm review which was not published because I was contacted for a copy of the inovoice by this site and have been too lazy to dig it out.

Today, Foto Connection calls me, in essence offering to buy a review. They tell me that if I post a favorable review here, they will waive my $9.99 shipping charge. I tell them that this offer is unethical and improper.

Just so you know...I can't be bought for $10. Now, add some zeroes, and who knows.

nomaxim,

I have no idea what "couldn't hold" means, or "what you will look into"

FotoConnection has been notified several times in the past of our merchant policies yet they continue to ignore and violate same by tampering with reviews. We have had many complaints about their unethical and possibly illegal behavior. They lost their merchant account privileges as one result and more consequences are likely to follow.

Thanks for coming forward in this regard, monsieurms, and for updating your review, now reactivated.

Let us know if any merchant:
(a) offers gifts, services, money, discounts or any incentive whatsoever in exchange for a positive review;
(b) coerces, threatens, harasses, 'strong-arms', bribes, incentivizes, or attempts to influence the changing or removing of a negative review;
(c) solicit reviews from prospective buyers.

Speaking as a one-time commercial trial lawyer, perhaps you need to take this to the next level and consult with someone in your jurisdiction.

I had placed an order for Canon 870IS with fotoconnection without checking their reputation. As is their style, they rudely demanded $30 extra for battery and charger which was actually inclusive in the deal asper their website. I cancelled the order and placed it with buydig.com but they have gone ahead and taken the money out of my account. Now I am running around to get my money. How can I solve this problem?

anantmathur1,

If you cancelled the order but they charged anyway, call your credit card company and ask them to reverse the charges. If the item shipped, refuse delivery. Depending on your credit card company's policies, the store may be able to place charges again without your authorization or knowledge. You may even have to close the credit card account to prevent further charges. Ask your credit card company about this.

Then, file complaints with the consumer resources listed in this thread: Where to file consumer complaints (Consumer Resources: Where to file consumer complaints)

Parr is infamous around these parts
Not a satisfied customer

Beware of dealing with fotoconnection. I experienced rude and condescending employees, supervisors and managers. I was offended and insulted by management and staff. They added a 3 yr warranty to my order and charged me after I already had refused it! They changed the 'ship to' address on my order without my approval. Held up my order up for days. I paid for 2nd day air. I ordered Jan7th, they entered as being ordered on Jan 10th and I received it at wrong address on Jan 14th.
After complaining, their solution was "Here is a $20 gift certificate and sorry for the trouble". Not acceptable. Poor, poor customer relations. The worst I have experienced in a long time. I learn my lesson: To research a company on internet before buying from them. No Quality in their service to customers.

How do they get away with it?

On 07-08-08 I placed an order for 2 Sanon SD1000 cameras. $19.38 shipping. I received an email asking me to call 800-457-0889 to confirm my order. A "Sam" then proceeded to attempt to sell me accessories, a longer lasting rechargable battery and battery charger. I told him no thanks. He then said there will be an additional $20.00 per camera for shipping insurance and that this was a good idea. I told him that I did not care for shipping insurance and I would but it elsewhere if that was the case. He said I would be charged this amount anywhere I go. I told him I begged to differ. He then said he would throw in the accessories that he offered to sell me previously (a longer lasting rechargable battery and battery charger) for free to make it up to me. I told him no that I now just wanted to cancel my order. He said okay but there will be a 15% restocking fee since he has processed my order! Do I have to say anymore anout the shady practices that this company has in store for "customer" (victims). I have filed a dispute with my credit card company. If I had done a small amount of research on this company I would have found that this behavior is their normal mode of operation and they are getting away with it daily to the dread of unsuspecting customers all over the USA. Internal terrorists.
