Can anyone tell me about www.86photovideo.com, otherwise known as 86th Street Photo & Video. Some of their prices seem too good to be true.

Welcome to RR.

The WhoIs info is private, so no way to confirm the address or phone numbers. The WhoIs also shows a creation date of 7FEB2007.

I cannot find any BBB reports for them.

The 'Contact Us' page gives the following info;

I have not as yet found a viable way to look up toll free numbers, however the other number comes back with Whitepages.com as,

Seems to be an unlisted phone number.

I ran a trial order through their website and I was asked to provide my personal and CC info through a unsecure http: page. Secure info should go through a https page.

Conclusion, IMO, I wouldn't order from them. They provide no contact info, "who am I buying from", and the order process is unsecured. Besides, I checked the prices using PriceGrabber.com and ResellerRatings.com and the prices were just below the norm.

Appreciate the leg work. The New York electronic market seems to be loaded with scammers, so I guess I'll guess I'll wait until one that I know is reliable has my camera.

I would suggest B&H Photo for cameras. Ratings here at RR is a ~9.4, plus, they are a member of the BBB. BBB report.

The only contact info for them is what I listed above. The WhoIs info shows a private registration.

Try calling the New York BBB at (212) 533-6200 or send a email to: 'inquiry @ newyork.bbb.org' (edited, remove spaces) to ask about filling a complaint without a mailing address.
