CyberPower PC...?
I'm thinking of purchasing a custom-built PC from CyberPower PC. Has anyone here dealt with them? Before purchasing from them, I want to make sure they're a worthwhile company.
I can't find many ratings for them, but the few I have found I've seen good and bad. So I'm not really sure what to think about them. One thing I read a lot about was that their customer service isn't very good. Though I Emailed them a question and I recieved a reply within the hour... Of course, that was through Email...

| www.ibuypower.com and www.cyberpower.com are virtually the same site. I am in the process of receiving a computer from ibuypower and I know people who have bought computers from cyberpower. With these companies, receiving a working computer is in the luck of the draw. Some inside advice I can give you:
Cons: Takes a long ass time for your computer to come, don't waste your 200 dollars on overnight because it will come in a month like everyone elses
Pros: Very good prices, customer service is good if you're nice and patient
Advice: DO NOT ORDER AN O/S! Most of these shady companies bootleg their copies and don't give you a registration key so when you need to update your O/S, you can't. Buy one from Best Buy or a store like that, or download a free Linux O/S (fedora) and use daemon tools to extract it. Be patient and bug them when it's taken too long.
If you're willing to wait another week I'll let you know if it's worth it or not. (mine is set to ship mid this week and arrive mid next week)

The best advice I can give you is check the ratings here for CyberPower, read the customers reviews, then decide if you really want to risk your money on this company. Also check out builders like AVAdirect,VelocityMicro, and Envision. And if you're planning on doing a lot of gaming,I'd upgrade the vid card to at least a 8800 GTS.

Hmm... Think I might actually just avoid this company. Besides, some other people have told me that that the $2,800 is way too much for the system I was thinking of getting, and said I could build it myself for a lot cheaper... So I may just do that.
As luck would have it, I know someone who'd probably be willing to put it together for me.

I bought a CyberPower PC, and I have to say the service I received was outstanding. I got a great PC for less than building it myself, and I think You can absolutly do the same.
1) Pick a PC from the list that has the "free shipping" tag. You can modify it ANY way you want, and save 65 dollars.
2) Don't do rush order or rush shipping. waste of money and too much a hassle.
3) You don't need a 1200watt power supply. Drop to a 750 or 800 (even that's a bit high). Either of these will work fine if you decide to add a second card in SLI mode
4) Don't be a wimp. Get an 8800GTX. It doesn't even break a sweat on any game out there right now. (at least the ones I own)
5) Liquid Cooling? Eh, I don't like hassle, I'd go with one of the Thermaltake Fans. (i've got the copper looking one, it's very quiet!)
6) Select as LITTLE ram as possible! They rip you off on RAM. You can buy it seperate off this site for much cheaper. If two gig is as little as you can go, buy another two from here, you'll save close to 100-150$.
7) Look at your motheboard choices (I haven't been in a while) just make sure you're not paying 100+ for a couple of extra features you won't ever use. This is why I picked up the Asus P5NE-SLI (650) instead of the 680.
8) Buy your 2 gig portable drive seperate. Again, just trying to save a little money.
And finally - THe X-Telstar is an AMaZING and BEAUtiFUL case!!! I got mine in Green. Get all of your drives in Black, the different colors usually don't match. (I got all my drives in Green and they are different shades of each other and different from my case)
I hope this helps. They put together a great product for me.

If you know someone with experience,or are experienced yourself,it's always much less expensive to build the system yourself. You can buy components much cheaper at places like Newegg than what you'd pay at a builder, and can pick the best brands.Unless you want SLI,the P35 motherboard is best,it's a lot more reliable than the 680i SLI boards, which have had a lot of issues.Unless you're planning on overclocking, water cooling isn't worth the price,a case with a good air cooling system, like the Antec Nine Hundred, will do just fine.

From the shipping horror stories I've heard about cyberpower and ibuypower, I wouldn't risk getting a liquid cooling system shipped. You might get a mess. According to FedEx my ibuypower pc is due to arrive 4:30 this Friday, so I'll let you know if the stories are true.

Yeah, I'm changing the liquid cooling system to something else. I really didn't know what it was when I selected it.
Using some feedback I have changed my list, though I'm still refining it more. I've been learning a lot thanks to feedback from various friends and forums. Power Supply: 600 Watts Power Supply CPU: (Sckt775)Intel® Core™ 2 Duo E6750 CPU @ 2.66GHz 1333FSB 4MB L2 Cache 64-bit (either that or (Sckt775)Intel® Core™ 2 Duo E6850 CPU @ 3.00GHz 1333FSB 4MB L2 Cache 64-bit) Cooling Fan: Artic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro 92mm CPU Cooling Fan (Extreme Silent at 20dBA & Overclock Proof) Motherboard: Not sure yet... Memory: (Req.DDR2 MainBoard)2GB (2x1GB) PC6400 DDR2/800 Dual Channel Memory Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTS 320MB 16X PCI Express Harddrive: 300GB (150GBx2) Gaming Western Digital Rapter 10,000RPM SATA150 16MB Cache WD1500ADFD[+0] Optical Drive: 18X DVD±R/±RW + CD-R/RW DRIVE DUAL LAYER Sound: 3D WAVE ON-BOARD 5.1 SOUND CARD Network: ONBOARD 10/100 NETWORK CARD Wireless: LINKSYS WMP54GS 802.11G PCI Network Card Floppy: 1.44 MB FLOPPY DRIVE OS: Microsoft® Windows® XP Home Edition w/ Service Pack 2
That's my current list. I'm still not quite sure on the motherboard, I've been hearing different things so I'm confused on that. I've heard that I should steer clear from the quad-cores, but than I've also heard I should get a quad-core... so I'm trying to find out more about that.
As for where I'm buying it, I'm not sure about that yet either. I've heard good and bad about CyberPower PC (though a lot more bad than good), but I'm still shopping around. Once I figure out what I should get, I'll hit NewEgg, and I'm going to drive over to Fry's this weekend to price their stuff, and hit a few other stores/sites as well.

If you're using this PC for gaming, I have some suggestions:
For me, the quad core CPU wasn't much more expensive then the highest dual core, check the price difference - if it is reasonable, it is well worth it
Any ASUS Mobo is legit
Go with multiple hard drives, 2 300gbs might be worth it. Personally, I got 2 400gb hard drives and I plan on dual-formatting them (1 windows 1 linux)
Avoid onboard stuff, I would upgrade your sound card, but don't worry about the network card. The ones that make a difference are too overpriced.
These suggestions are only if you plan on gaming with this computer. Don't waste your time with SLI no matter how cool it looks. Everything else looks legit.
