If you're going the build it yourself route,Newegg is hard to beat for parts prices and selection.

Have you take a look at other Gaming PC builders? These are just a few you can check out and they all have good ratings: www.velocitymicro.com www.vigorgaming.com www.falcon-nw.com
Check around the web and you will find quite a few horror stories on the "powers" (ie. cyberpower and ibuypower). I would stay away from them.

^Truth. I actually put an order in with CyberPower about 2 weeks ago. They tout that 6 month Bill Me Later on their web page so I chose that as an option. The next day i check my email and see my order was accepted, in the meantime I'm thinking how did that happen? All I gave was the last 4 digits of my SS# and shipping info. Anyway, I call them that day to request an upgrade in memory. The first guy who picked up the phone mumbled something and immediately transferred me. I still have no idea what he said. The next woman answered the phone all snippy. I requested the upgraded memory and she snapped she would have to cancel my order and I would have to wait 24 hours to reorder. Ok, I figured what the hell. Then I ask how I go about processing my bill me later payment. She says she doesn't know shes not a bank! I said ok, thanks. That was that, never returned to put in my new order.
I since ordered from Digital Storm, its in its build process. They are more pricey than the "power" people, but much less expensive than the above mentioned companies. So far Digital Storm has been in contact with me via phone and email on my status. I should have my system in a week or so. Anyway, like others have said, it appears to be hit or miss with CyberPower. Their prices are almost comparable to building yourself when you add in warranty, but weather or not you get a pile of junk seems like 50/50. Good luck in whatever you decide. |

Yes, there are many stores like the ones that I had mentioned before. You just have to research a little and read up on user experience. I understand that reviews are important, but, sometime, the real life experience is much closer to what you will actually get.

My new iBUYPOWER comp runs fine, the fans are a bit loud but I'll know when they fail. I worked out all the physical kinks but the lack of network is still bothering me. I assume it is due to the limited 30 day windows trial and I will see once my XP Pro comes.

You are too easy to please... Anyway, the 30 day trial period should have nothing to do with network not working. There are no difference before or after you activate windows.
For me, with that many problems, regardless of its size, will feel very unsatisfied. When I spend any amount of money for a finished good, it should come in not only in working order, but without any problems. Would you get mad if you had just purchased a TV and the volume button works sometimes only?
Maybe I am being too critical. However, all my money are hard earned and I will always spent wisely.

I couldn't agree more,I'm planning on spending $2000+ on a system, for that kind of money,I expect a company to at least know how to install CD and hard drives and tighten screws properly! Who knows what other problems might surface with that system?

Thats exactly how I was thinking at first. I figured I know how to do the minor things like you mentioned, tightening screws and whatnot, the only thing put me off of CyberPower was the weird experience on the phone. I read reviews how they seem rushed and sound snotty, I figured it was just a bad tech. But when I called and received the same treatment I didn't get that warm and fuzzy feeling. It just got me to think if a semi major problem ever occurred I wouldn't get the support I needed, so I ended up paying a bit more for the same build. Of course, my same build would have cost double if I went to a high end custom builder like Falcon Northwest for example. I just tried to find a happy medium between price/performance. I think my biggest need was for a solid warranty and how they handle returns/support requests/and shipping costs for returns. And with all the personalized attention, and attention to specific details I would never go back to a large computer company like Dell/Gateway/HP again. Maybe thats because I'm coming off a horrible experience with Dell, regardless! :P
And I don't think you're being too critical Boohoo, if my volume button fell off, that TV would be going back to the company! |

The volume button works fine...
I figured out that my home network has to set up another computer on it in order for me to connect to it with my new computer. I was playing around with the video card driver install cd's and got the sound installed, the video card installed, and then when I put in the mobo disk and installed the nvidia cache drivers and restarted it came up with an error message. I'm going to wipe the hard drive, reinstall windows and work from there.
As to my lack of criticism, I could bitch and moan all day about threaded screw holes, or I would work with what I have. If I were to send it back and tell iBUYPOWER to fix it, it would most likely take another month - time that I am not willing to take. Nothing was DOA and other than this new problem w/ the unpassable error message, everything was fine. I have a battle plan to fix it and it should work.
Plus, they basically gave me 500 dollars. Did I mention they installed 2 8600 GTs? They're non-SLI so I figure I'll ebay or craigslist one, or even just keep it around.

The problems you're having aren't that bad and I certainly wouldn't return it either. Especially considering all the reviews that stated loose screws and mis-seated components as standard from CyberPower. I think it would be a different matter if you spent twice as much and ordered from a company that prides itself on immaculate builds. So with CyberPower, its not really a surprise or out of place and within the norm. Glad you have a game plan to tackle your problem[s] though. |
