Legit Dealers?

I have been looking for a laptop. I'd like a ODM laptop, Dell and Toshiba are just too expensive.

I was looking at Discount Laptops and Gen-X-PC, the site has pretty good reviews for both. Google doesn't show any Discount Laptop reviews, because it's search fails me to find thoughts about the store.

Gen-X-PC has good reviews on Resellerratings, but on Google has mixed reviews.

I find a lot of scam listings, but does anyone know of any solid CS legit dealers of laptops or can I order directly from ODMs and where would I do that?

Here is an EMAIL CORRESPONDENCE LOVE STORY

I really don't need to explain much, as the emails between us when I provided them feedback on their survey say it well.

SURVEY EMAIL:

From: IUSR_Jackson@Jackson
Sent: Thursday, September 06, 2007 10:32 PM
To: support@gen-x-pc.com
Subject: Data posted to form 1 of http://www.gen-x-pc.com/survey.htm

Navigation: Little confusing
Prices: Average
whosaid: Groucho

text:

The website layout is confusing and it took me a while to get used to it. I'm pretty stubborn and try to figure things out but I'm concerned that you may be losing some customers due to the layout. I would also stress the fact that somebody can just call in and talk to somebody about what they want about what they are looking for.

Response Email:

Hi ,

That's a first, most people find the navigation very very easy.

"I would also stress the fact that somebody can just call in and talk to somebody about what they want about what they are looking for."

So you mean it's good than people can call in an order or you think we shouldn't let people call in? Because our customers have always been able to call in an order. Did you not see the "Contact Us" link? Maybe it's just you who has a hard time finding things on any website.

Thank you.

My reply Email:

Lol...Wow...I've never had quite the "slap in the face" response from any company I've taking the time to give my personal feedback to. I'm more shocked than offended at this point. My favorite phrase of your response was "maybe it's just you who has a hard time finding things on any website". You might as well just called me an idiot and said "Please eF off, I don't want to listen to your feedback".

May you burn in hell Robin--Cheers, Mark

PS. I read it again and Wow, not an once of customer service...just you being defensive. lol...Im sharing this with others cause it makes me laugh.

Final Email:

Hi ,

You probably couldn't find your way around a one page website. Your first email makes no sense and the second one has spelling errors. You don't want customer service because you will not be a customer.

Thank you.

Conclusion:

So there it is. My decisions going forward are simple. I'm not going to deal with gen x pc and their average pricing/retalitory customer service. I'm also going to use spellcheck before I send an email...as a typo spelling "ounce" with "once" is a grave offense.

I hope this helps others who were considering dealing with gen x pc. There are plenty of other reputable stores out there with better pricing and, so far with my dealings with them, some real service.

Sigh...I feel like talking to a brick wall.

Please see this post for more information:
http://forums.techguy.org/reviews/115368-gen-x-pc.html

Everything that is posted here is true and, sadly, disappointing. I cannot believe that they feel that this kind of behavior from a company is acceptable and there is no need for an apology.

Instead...they state that I am a liar, slanderer, and a vengeful, hateful person. It's really pathetic at this point and I am giving up on receiving any kind of apology from anyone at Gen-x-pc. And no...I am not attacking one person at this company. I don't believe someone should be fired for one stupid mistake. But please...in the future when you or your employees make a mistake, just man up and apologize. I'm telling you from experience as a owner and manager that customers/the public will forgive you when you genuinely takes steps to rectify a mistake. Sometimes, it's even more admirable to see a company as human trying always to improve than a company appearing as "flawless".

FYI. I never stated that I had made a purchase.

Sir, I have the email from ResellerRatings.com that proves you claimed you had made a purchase by listing a phony invoice number. I can also have this forum moderator verify the authenticity of your false post in our review section. Please find someone else to attack.

You can also click on a user's profile, you must be logged in, and then click on 'Find all vendor reviews...'. This will bring up a page showing that user's general info plus a listing of all posts and reviews and the total posts and reviews left. In this case tucsonmm's page shows;

tucsonmm,
I would also point out that as of this time Gen-X-PC.com's rating page shows a 9.69/10 with 8 reviews since 18APR2007. Even thou cperron admitted that a Robin worked for him that hardly justifies what appears to be a fraudulent review and does not help your case at all. I have not as yet located any other reviews good or bad for this company. Or a BBB report for that matter.

I agree that that sentence makes little or no sense to me.

cperron,
When looking up a company one thing I always look for is a verifiable address. The 'Contact Us' page for your company gives no address. I have found this info in a Google cache;
Quote:
Company Name Gen-X-Pc.Com
Address 125 prairie ronde rd
City Ville Platte
State LA
Zip 70586
Phone 337-235-1072
Email cperron@gen-x-pc.com
Website http://www.GEN-X-PC.com
Contact Person Charles Perron

NOTE: This is Google's cache of http://accessbusiness.louisiana.gov/VendorCompanyDetails?CompanyId=99218 as retrieved on Jul 20, 2007 03:03:36 GMT.
As I'm sure you already know the address and phone number given there do not match up. A lot of people like to know where a company they are buying from is located. Just a suggestion.

Oh, and welcome to RR both of you.

ResellerRatings.com removed tucsonmm review the same day I reported it as being false. I wish I could remove this post due to his dishonesty and slander of our company.

Yes that address is one of our addresses. We have two separate business addresses. I will think about listing our address on the website. I do like to have the safety of our employees as the maximum importance.

Thank you,

Location of Business

Employee safety is obviously important, but so is listing the address where your business is located. As nomaxim stated, many consumers want to know where their products are coming from and also want to be sure that the company they are using is a real business and not a scam. One of the best ways to do that is to post a valid phone number and address on your website.

I'm assuming that you do not have a physical store front, but if you do, it would obviously be very difficult for someone to walk-in and make a purchase right now.
