Scam campany
Same Experience. After placing the order, I was sent an email from rainbowtronics stating "Please call us at 1-800-355-5041 or 1-347-394-1399 and speak to Peter extension 311 in regards to your order". When i called, he tried to up the price and for accessories that were stated to be included on the site here "http://thedigitalnerds.com/product.asp?productid=dcrdvd108&tab=1". Sounds like illegal way to make business to me. Don't buy from them
They also go by:

Identity Theft?
Same as everyone has stated with me. I cancelled my order and they hung up on me so fast I did not realize they had done so. Has anyone had any issues in cancelling the order? Anyone have any false future charges, and/or identity theft? Should I cancel my credit card now?
Thanks

Same deal here.
Total bait and switch scam!
I asked them to cancel and got a "Gladly" and hung up.
It amazes me that these companies can continue to do business.

Don't order from them
Great advertised price but what good is it if you don't get the item. I orded a Canon SD850 IS camera online and got a phone call, almost immediately afterwards. They tried to sell me more stuff and I said no thanks. (in retrospect, that's probably why they cancelled my order). I called to confirm as indicated in the e-mail they sent me. They told me it wasn't in stock so it would take 2 weeks. I called 2 weeks later only to be told my order was cancelled. When I asked why, I was told that he didn't want to argue with me so he was hanging up... and he did!
Now I have to watch my bills so I don't get charged.

File a Complaint
I took jilliesmother's advice and called the FTC number she provided. They registered my complaint and also suggested I contact the consumer protection agency, and file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau (they provided me with both numbers for my state).
In addition, they said to make sure any future disputes be done in writing and I should send them a letter telling them to refund my money.

I almost fell prey, but canceled at the last minute
Here is my story about thedigitalnerds:
After placing my online order, I received a call from one of the sales guys, and things sure got interesting from there. He started out by schmoozing with me about how great of a camera this was, and asked if it was a gift. I said it was a gift for my wife, and he went on to say that "boy will your wife ever love you for this". This is when the red flags started going off in my mind about this company. The gentleman asked if I needed an SD card (fair question). I said I already had one. He then turned his attention to a backup battery, because, according to him, the battery that the camera ships with is only good "for about 20 minutes". What a fricken crock of balony! I stated that I wanted to do my own research on the matter. But, he pressed on. He said I could get a backup battery for either $50 or a super duper backup battery for $120. I politely declined, which is when he said "I'll tell you what, I'll offer you the low low price of $79.99 for the super duper battery." More red flags. When I declined this he said he's lower to $69.99 for the super duper and toss in a free camera case. I declined again. Then he told me something that surprised the hell out of me: he said that the camera I bought was a chinese version, with chinese manual and chinese menus. I fell for this, and thought, for a brief moment, that I had overlooked some fine print when I bought the camera. We bickered a bit (he actually said to me "are you going to let me talk, will you stop talking and let me talk?" I couldn't believe what I was hearing. So, when he offered the US version of the camera plus the super duper battery plus the case for $269.99 total, I said "well, ok." That's when he hit me with the last sucker punch of the day. He said "Ok, with shipping and handling, the total will be $289.99. I just about dropped dead, because, you see, the original price of $203 INCLUDED shipping. I knew, without a doubt, that I was dealing with some crooked, sly, backhanded, bait-and-switch organization.
Later that day, I relaized how easy it would be to switch a camera's language from english to chinese, and sell it this way to someone, in an attempt to try to convince them to order the "US" version. I'm willing to bet this is all a scam. The camera's most likely support both languages. Maybe I'm wrong, maybe not. Even if I am wrong, its sick and wrong to try to pawn off a chinese piece of trash to american consumers, then try to upsell once your on the phone.
Grrr. These guys need to go down. |

Almost fell prey but backed out at the last second.....
Here's how it went down for me.....
Found their price on a Sony HD Camcorder and it was so below the competition, my warning bells went off immediately but I decided to check it out anyway....
Went to register to order online and was a bit miffed when they asked for my email and then my password. Initially I thought they were doing it in the hopes that people wouldn't think and would actually give them their email passwords but I realized too that they could be asking someone to set up a password to access their account there. Either way, it wasn't clearly stated so I decided to call the 800 number to see if I could get a live human on the line.
I called and a guy answered so I told him based on the insanely low price I just wanted to speak with someone in person to see how they can charge such a low price. If I had gotten a reasonable answer, I would have probably placed my order then and there. Instead the guy said in a very short, gruff tone and heavy New YAWK accent...."Do you want to buy a camera or not, sir?" I told him again, yes I do but I want to feel sure I'm not getting ripped off. *click* He hung up on me.
Not a good way to keep customers happy there, Vito! I'll pass on them. But thanks to that experience I found this forum so it's still good in the end!

Poor Customer Service
Same experience as the other posters. We also received an email from thedigitalnerds.com asking us to call and confirm the order. When we did, the CS rep tried to sell us memory for the camera. When we asked if the camera would "work out of the box", he said "it's just like a car, if you don't put gas in it, it will not run." When we told him that we would shop around for memory, he bluntly said "OK, we will ship your order" and hung up before we could ask further questions.
It had already been two business days since we placed the order online, but there was no indication that it had been shipped. We were threatened by customer service just because we called back a couple of times to verify when the order would be shipped out. The CS rep said, "You are wasting our time and our resources by calling back. You should call back to speak to shipping tomorrow. I am warning you, if you call one more time, I am cancelling your order. That is a warning to you." He hung up as promptly as he had done on each of the previous calls. So, after cooling down for a few minutes, I called back about 5 minutes later, and when CS answered, I told them I was calling to cancel my order. He asked for my order number and also asked "why?", but before I could tell him why, he asked if this was [my name]. When I replied "yes", he very bluntly said, "Your order is cancelled" and hung up.
I have NEVER been treated so poorly by customer no-service (as Clark Howard says). Please beware of this company. I am following others' advice and will be calling 1-800-FTC-HELP in the morning.

I just had a very similar experience with thedigitalnerds.com.
I placed an order for a Sony Cybershot DSC-N2 digital camera at the digitalnerds.com Web site based on the price, which was much lower than comparative sites. Within minutes I received a phone call from someone from DigitalNerds.com verifying my order. However, he proceeded to try to tack on a $100 memory card which I did not want and he became extremely agitated when I refused to add this to my order. I told him he was not projecting a very good image for his company and he told me he didn't care about me or my order, and that they don't need my $250, they are a "wholesaler, not a retailer". I essentially laughed at him and simply repeated my objection to adding the memory card to my order at which point he said "okay, then how about we just cancel your order." And he proceeded to cancel my order without actually asking me if that is what I wanted and hung up on me. I suppose I better watch my credit card statement very closely.
I'd sooner get gouged at Best Buy than ever give these guys my business.

He told me the battery that came with it would only last 15min and I should buy a new one I told him I had 4 batteries, he then told me that i should buy ext warranty 99 for 2 yrs 149 for 5. I told him I really ONLY JUST WANT THE CAMERA!!!!
He then said ok ok warranty for 5 yrs $99 just for you!! I still said NO thanks!!

So what they do is BAIT you in with SUPER LOW PRICES then try to sell you very cheap NO Name brand accessories for BIG BUCKS$$$ making 500% profit on that stuff but if you dont want that then they switch the orginal item to more expensive one. HOW CAN THEY GET AWAY WITH THIS!!!!
