How much is a non-functional Dell Inspiron worth?
A colleague of mine was sitting with his infant son while typing on his laptop. The kid spilled a small amount of water on the keyboard, but it must have hit just the right place. The laptop died instantly and will not show any signs of life now. He's had it looked at by a repair place and I've also checked it out. There is no readily apparent damage other than some very minor (and I mean VERY minor) corrosion around the a/c power port. Still, it's seriously dead. I happen to have an identical laptop in the office, so I swapped hard drives so he could get his data off it, but now he says he doesn't want to pay to repair it. I have a Dell Inspiron that survived a wine spill but now has bad blotches on the LCD. I'm thinking of offering him some cash for his laptop as the LCD will fit in mine. Thing is, I don't know how much to offer him. I don't want to insult him, but I also don't want to give away too much.
It's a Dell Inspiron E (1405, I think) with a P4 processor, 512MB RAM, and a decent hard drive. I'd use the RAM and the LCD for my laptop, and maybe even the hard drive.
Any ideas on what I should offer him? Maybe $150? Or is that too low?
