online dealers (question)......

To make a long story short, I am planning on purchasing my first hdtv online. It will also be my first time purchasing a "big ticket" item online.

I've tried to do as much research as I can on both the item and the "short list" of online retailers that I am considering. At this time, Invision Displays is at the top of my list. I noticed the 'ResellerRatings' stats and reviews are awfully good. I have also contacted them and asked a handful of questions.

I did notice a post on another forum that basically said he/she would not advise going the online route as online retailers sell "B" stock, or are refurbished units, and are not the "manufacturer sealed" boxes. Therefore, this leads to some of the "low" prices one will find online. Now, I could be easily wrong here, but, I thought resellers must state unit is "B" stock or refurbished.

Anyway, just wondering if anyone would like to share their comments on the subject---including Invision Displays.

Thanks (ahead of time)---have a good one!

How much better are Invision's prices compared to a local retailer?

Little things like the TV getting screwed up during shipment
means you get to deal with the shipper and Not Invision.....

Invision Displays PURCHASE AGREEMENT TERMS AND CONDITIONS

Honest sellers/resellers state rather an item is reburbished or not. This would apply to local and on line companies.

I've bought a TV from Amazon before and that experience was pretty bad.

Amazon's policy is that once you receive the TV, they're done with you. Heck, I don't know if they even care about damage-in-transit issues.

If you do go with an online company, make sure you get a brand name that has in-house warranty service and a service technician in your area (preferably one that would have to come out for free to service your TV).

Whizzy, your first "(my first) online. It would also be a first for purchasing a "big ticket" item online" thread was three months ago...Curious to find out what you have against local retail stores?

Well, to keep this short, issues came up where I decided to put off purchasing an hdtv---for a little while. Now, I want to get this done within the next month or two. The main problem lately, has been trying to get my cousin (who is an electrician---and lives a couple hours away) to find a free weekend to do some new wiring for me.

Anyway, I live in the "boonies". The local retailers (which are an hour in any direction) are in small communities---they don't have much of a selection. The closest BB is over two hours away. The closest CC is 4 hours away. I have been to both BB's, but, neither one of them carried the tv I was interested in (and, neither have the Magnolia section of BB). And, when I did talk pricing on a couple of brands, I wasn't real satisfied.

Side note: I have had problems with BB in the past. I had to contact the BBB to help resolve a problem. I had an uncle who had a difficult time with them on a new tv he purchased.

So, just thought I would do some research and see how people have done with purchasing a tv online. Came across "many good"---"some bad".
