My experience with Chase is quite difference. I came to them via Chemical Bank of which I was a customer. I have a 20k check reading account with them. For an uncover loan I pay currently 12%. However, every month I receive special checks with varying interest rate from 4 to 6%.

BTW, I did write checks up to my limit once and with the 3% fee it took me over the limit and I was charged several fee, which upon complaining where removed. I am not a friend of the banking industry, nevertheless, in the past 15 years my experience with Chase has been very positive.

James, your charge that Chase is a scam has no merit. Chase was been extremely helful in serving my short term money needs.

I was with Wachovia and my card turned in to a Bank One Visa. I never paid any membership fees. Then the card turned into Chase Visa. They tried to charge an annual fee on my account without asking me. I called and had it removed and put a stop to all that bull sheet.

I had a chase card for quite some time at a decent interest rate. I had never actually paid any interest as I paid it in full every month. Since the limit was relatively low, I asked to double it for a trip I was making so I could just charge my 4-week vacation expenses rather than drag around a huge amount of travelers checks.

Upon returning from my trip last summer, the first bill I received had an increase in rate to 23.99 % I called them immediately and asked why my rate had nearly doubled and I couldn't be given a straight answer. So I canceled the card despite the representative's plea to reconsider, they even offered to drop my interest rate to 19.99 % which I refused.

Sure, I never paid a dime in interest even once for the time I had the card, but thats not the point. They just couldn't give me a straight answer for the rate increase and who knows, I may have actually had to spread out payments at some point and I wasn't happy they were hoping to make a fast buck because I asked to double my line of credit. Jokes on them I guess, because I paid the balance in full and they never did get a cent out of me!

I happily bank at wells fargo, my plat visa has a nice fixed rate under 10% and I like to keep it that way.

way to go kuulei!

It goes to show that consumers not banks are in charge of their own interest rates.

Closing open accounts can hurt your FICO score.

Having cards that do not report your credit limit hurts your score too.

The information was posted as general "fyi" for any readers who may not be aware of the consequences and effects of closing their credit card account/s. One's FICO score can greatly affect lenders' interest rates.

BTW, I'm not a doctor - really

Chase

I had the same problem once before with Chase, and I ran up all my other cards doing balance transfers to pay them off. They are NOTORIOUS for raising your rate when you get close to the limit. They just did it again. They are like a cop waiting for the meter to run out so he can ticket you. I paid online, on the due date and they said it was due 3 days before. Raised my 2.99 to 29 % and added late fees. I am NEVER late on my payments.Yes, Discover and the other card Companies will work with you and reverse charges, even as a 1 time thing. Even though I had been a card member since 1991, they would not work with me. So I'm doing the same thing, using my other cards to pay them off and then they will get no interest at ALL!!! I was just on the phone with one of my other credit card Companies and they were shocked I had a 2.99 Bal Transfer rate She warned me to watch out for Chase!! Real nice reputation they have here. I owe $14,600 to Chase and just paid $6700 of it to another card. That's the 2nd time they did that to me when I got near the limit.

welcome sshaboat

It is sad to hear these stories about Chase. They would only do that to me one time and they would be done.
