First of all, I have read all of these comments (look at my username for proof), and I, too, have my two cents to add about this company. I am not a "professional liar". I am just a hard working employee from Columbia University. I don't have the time to write reviews, but the way this company screwed me out of $300 made me want to write this:

I bought a "brand new" Samsung X830 from exoticphone in October of 2007 from their physical location in Manhattan because they offered the lowest price out of everywhere. When I got the phone, I realized that the phone was slightly scratched already. This tipped me off that the phone was used or refurbished. But the phone worked, so I didn't care. However, exactly 3 days after using it, the phone started acting up (i.e. the phone started freezing, or lock up and require a restart). After a few hours of that, the phone did not start up at all. I charged the phone, pressed the reset button, did everything possible to try to get it to work.

Afterwards, I gave them a call and they told me to show them the phone. I showed it to them, and they ended up blaming me for breaking the phone. Bill claimed that I changed the firmware on the phone and broke it. I had not done so, and I told Bill that I wouldn't want to break a perfectly working phone. Bill kept insisting that I broke the phone, and therefore would not give me a refund nor replacement. Finally, they told me that they would give it to their repairer named Bahsah (sic).

After close to 5 months, I have yet to get the phone back. After repeated calls to the repairer, I have reason to believe that he has no intention of fixing the phone, nor returning a broken one. Since January of 2008, he has begun ignoring my calls. And that's how I got screwed out of $300.

Here are a list of shady tactics they use:
1) They pretend to be Americans. Their customer service is a guy named "Neil Anderson". By the name, you'd think it was an American, right? Nope, it's actually a Bangladesh guy with a black beard and turban, who's real name is obviously not "Neil Anderson". In fact, the four people that work in their small dinky office are all Bangladesh. I have nothing against Bangladesh people. I just think it's shady when someone pretends to be an American when he clearly not.

2) They ignore phone calls. "Bill" and "Jay" are both from Bangladesh, and are not "real gentlemen" at all. They both have given me a hard time, and all together ignored my calls after they found out that the phone they sold me broke. I can prove that they were ignoring my calls, because after calling them several times on one number, I switched to my friend's phone, and they picked up immediately.

3) They sell refurbished/used phones and do not tell you. I am but just one of their victims. If you look at the resellerratings review here on them, you can see that someone else had the same problem as me. This really explains why they can keep their prices so low. Almost $30 less than the next reliable reseller.

4) Their return policy is too short. I realized now why their return policy is only 7 days and not the usual 30 days that most companies give. It's because they are expecting their phones to have problems or break within 30 days. With 7 days, you barely have time to receive the phone from shipment, and ship it back in time. By the way, don't ship them your broken phone if you ever want to see the phone again. They will probably keep the working parts, and resell it.

5) Their "store" in Manhattan is not "prestigious" at all. I think one of their allegedly fraudulent responders on this thread mentioned that it was. It isn't. I've been there, and the street is littered with bootleggers selling fake DVDs, and fake watches. The "store" itself is just a small office that's smaller than my kitchen. And I don't have a very big kitchen.

6) They prefer cash. If you ever go to the actual store like I did, they will keep saying, "Hehe, we prefer cash. Cash is better." At first, I thought this was just a way to avoid paying taxes. But now I realized that this is probably their way of avoiding problems with credit card companies. If you do pay with a credit card, they will photocopy your driver's license. This is unnecessary to claim money from a credit card. This is their trick of getting your address and credit card number at the same time. What they need this for is anyone's guess. But just a warning, all you need to commit identity theft is a name, address, and credit card number.

Sorry for this lengthy review. The bottom-line is, the extra $20 or $30 you save is not worth the trouble and risk you will get into with this company. Get your phone from a more reliable source that will not sell you a refurbished phone, and not delay the shipment of the phone, and not take your broken phone and ignore your phone calls.

I will have the last laugh with exoticphone.com

I ordered a Sony Ericsson cell-phone on 04/09/2008 from their web site (exoticphone.com) and when I got the phone today I noticed that the battery cover has a loose latch, the phone itself will not power on, the charger won't charge the phone, the 64MB memory card is missing and most of all the phone looks refurbished, not new as advertised on their web site.

When I contacted customer service they pointed me to their returned policy on their web site and said they will investigate my 'allegations' when I return the phone. Their return policy emphasizes the short return period (7 days) and their 15% restocking fee, which covers among so many other things, 'missing accessories'.

Yeah, sure I will sit around to argue with them on why I should get my full refund. I already initiated an inquiry with Amex, and I'm pretty confident I will have a full credit by tomorrow. Couple of similar incidents in the past 10 years Amex served me well.

Oh.. I also filed a complaint with the New York BBB, https://odr.bbb.org/odrweb/public/ComplaintExport.aspx

That is the same excuse given by other posters from exoticphone.

The ratings page here at RR gives them a 1.82/10 rating. And, yes they must give a order/invoice number when submitting a review.

The BBB report says,
Quote:
Based on BBB files, this business has an unsatisfactory record with the Bureau, because there is a pattern of complaints, and the business has not corrected the underlying reason for the complaints.
The BBB also checks to make sure that complaints are from real customers.

Oh, by the way. The post you are quoting, by exoticjihad, is over 6 months old and that poster did not leave a review.

EDIT:
After looking through your reviews at PhoneScoop. I see 16 reviews for phones going back to 16FEB2005. All of these reviews are for products, mobile phones, and none are for a website/business.

smokenator is infamous around these parts
I purchased a SonyErickson 850i on 10/19/08. The phone showed up as stated and it was the correct phone. I didn't know they sold European models but that doesn't make a difference to me as I travel back and forth to Europe. Anyway, a couple functions don't work correctly so I have sent them two e-mails to take care of the issue. They've responded to neither of them. I disputed the charge today with American Express (AmEx doesn't put up with b.s. from scamming/unprofessional business). Now I have the money and the phone and given exoticphone's track record, I'll get to keep both of them. The company seems legit in the fact that they do have what they say they have, cheaply at that, and they do send it out. You're on your own from there though. As apparent from my own and many other people's experience, it takes a dispute to get them to respond to dissatisfaction. Make sure if you buy from them, use AmericanExpress (or another credit card company with a vengeance toward scam-artists and slacker businesses).

Exoticphone.com a ripoff and hassle

I read all of your replies to this thread and i usually cant stand getting on here and doing this but this company has pushed all the right buttons for me to get angry. I ordered and paid for 2 phones from exoticphone.com on nov 15 2008. The order wasnt "put in" their computer until the 20th. Which doesnt bother me since i paid thru paypal. On Nov 20th they said they would overnight my phones since i paid for the overnight shipping. I didnt recieve the phones until the 26th. Once i recieved the phones the LG KF700 that I had purchased was broke. The bottom half of the touch screen was not working. Me and my girlfriend spent a few hours trying to work with it and after about 2 hours the inside of the touch screen shattered. Now I used to own a cell phone store in Oklahoma City, OK called Adam Wireless and electronics and I know how business is suppose to be ran. I immediately called the store and advised them what happened. They said to go ahead and ship back the phone, overnight, and they would ship a new one back out. On the 1st of december i shipped the phone out and at 1255 on dec 2nd they recieved the phone and this guy everyone talking about named Bill signed for it. For the next 15 days i called and emailed and called and to no avail. They told me they hadnt recieved the phone yet. They told me it takes 7 days to process. They hung up on me. They told me that they already looked at the phone and they were shipping out a new one. They even tried to transfer me to a supervisor which happened to be the exact same person. They told me that the warehouse hadnt processed the return. All these things they told me meant nothing. Finally on the 18th of december, 16 days after they recieved my phone they told me that it was my fault the phone was broke and they had shipped my broke phone back to me on the 17th. I argued for 48minutes. Cell phone bill will be high this month!! They did the same crap they had done for the past 18 days. Finally i asked if I could have the tracking number so i could see when my phone would get there and they told me they dont keep tracking numbers on file. They couldnt even tell me which company they used to ship it. They passed me on to every person which sounded only to be 2 people that changed there names. Today is the 19th of december at 1239cst. They have yet to give me a tracking number and have yet to recieve my phone. I have contacted ripoff report and filed a claim and i have contacted the bbb and ahve filed a claim. I have also contacted my credit card along with paypal and filed a claim. All of which have promising leads. Sorry for being so long but some of the people on here dont believe people ahve real complaints. If you have a problem with any information i have said please feel free to contact me and i will provide all the transaction numbers you need. Please dont use this comapny cause i would hate for someone to go through the same mess I had to.*****UPDATE***** I just got off the phone with a "supervisor" ang he gave me a tracking number and said the phone shoul dbe here tomorrow because they sent it out 2 days ago. When i called UPS.com to verify the info they said that the tracking number they had given me was just printed today. I called the store back and they said "ooooppps we gave you the wrong number". They then gave me the same number but 1 number different. I again called UPS.com and again they said the same thing.

I just came back here to see if exoticphone is still up to no good, and it pains me to see anyone else suffer from this company. The only thing about this thread that makes me happy is to see this thread rank third on Google when I google "exoticphone". I hope that my $300 mistake and the thousands of dollar that others have lost will act as an expensive warning to everyone.

As dboss claims, I am not working for a competitor company. If I was, wouldn't I have linked a competitor's website or at least mention a competitor's name?

The only reason why I posted here was because I was robbed of $300. They wouldn't even return my broken phone so that I could sell the working parts (charger, battery, etc.). There's nothing much I can do about it except warn everyone else.

To dboss and rest of employees at exoticphone: I know it's hard to make a living in America, and you were probably raised with little morals in Bangladesh. You were poor once, and now you figured out a way to make a little amount of dough by scamming and stepping on the rich, arrogant Americans. It must feel good, right? But from what I know, someday you're going to step on the wrong foot. Perhaps someone with nothing to lose except for the $300 that you scammed him out of. Be careful. And I feel sorry for all of you: for I do not know the horrors you must have suffered as children to lead you up to this lifestyle of scamming innocent people with your broken phones and false promises.

Must Read, The naked Face of Exoticphone.com, I m the x employee of exoticphone.com

I am here today to tell u about the real History of exoticphone com.
I'm one of the X employee of exoticphone. I have leave this company with a great Pain. Mr. Jahidulllah fired me within 1 day notice although there was the terms that he must inform me at least 1 month before.
in Bangladesh this is one of the major employments rules that u will give him two month notice or two month salary before u fire him.

I was been hired by one of the beard man, ugly black man who is the in charge of their Bangladesh office, gave me words that this is a multinational company hiring you for long time. He, Shojib, wanted to give him my educational certificates for six months.

I am working here from last one years. I know everything about this guys (Jay and Bill) My other colleagues know much more about them. I met one man of his relatives who was waiting for him that night and too much interested about computer. This man look like pure village man when i talked little longer he told me who is this jahidullah, where is he from, how they go USA etc.
We had good relations with Exoticphone.com new york office guys. When i have joined in Dhaka office, one of their owner, arif billah or bill, came Bangladesh office with his family. He stayed in office 24 hours. I was just wondering why this man living in his office rather than staying with his family. later, I came to know that he is kind of crazy. Lots of his relatives came to visit him. When ever we came to office at night we found someone was talking with him. All are village people. He used to live with many boys in a small room in that office. Some times we was laughing to him thinking some different think.

One night the police suddenly came to office and arrest them because they are running illegal operation doing voip business also (voip is illegal in Bangladesh) and they do not have call center license But fortunately, they manage police giving $5,000/=

Shojib one of the helper of their scam business. He gave all bad advices n fired me within 1 day. We was always laughing on this huzur. Some time he call young girls for them. I punched him and shouted him as slave of evil. This was his perfect pay back what he did with me and my colleagues. He never pay us full salary and took it in his pocket.

jahidullah (Jay) is a professional lair. He can murder for money. He abuse Bangladeshi poor people. I have heard that they are going to start drug business in Bangladesh.

They immigrated to USA by DV lottery. They used to live in a Village was poor family from commilah (one of the district of Bangladesh, This district people are very notorious for their bad activities, They try to immigrant to various countries to do scam or illegal business to make huge money in a short time and involve in Bangladesh politics to become member of parliament or minister. Even Bangladesh people don't like this district's people)

exoticphone.com sales copy (Chinese) or defective Nokia phones

The owner, Jahidullah, his cell-347-952-1013,. Age 25, exoticphone customer know him as Jay. And there is a another owner, Arif Billah. His age is 26. the exoticphone customer know him as Bill.

They sale copy phones (Chinese), Refurbish, defective, scratch phones. Although, customer pay them for Brand new original equipment manufacturer and they tell the customers that they only sale brand new phones. they lie to customers. They do not have warehouse. When the customer order them and pay over credit card they buy from the wholesaler name national phone located in Manhattan, new york.

If u ordered for 10 phones, they shipped u 2 refurbish, 3 defective, 3 copy, and 2 original. more over, they also send wrong color phones. if u ordered for pink they will send u black because black is cheaper than pink color.

they earn money over shipping. they charge extra 20 to 30 dollar for shipping. And they never ship the product timely. Some time they ship ground to make much profit though customer pay them for 2nd day.

There are many incidences of wholesales customers and i am a burning witness. they do not ship wold wide but if any overseas customer call them and want to place the order for his country they accept his order an ask the customer to wear the money ASAP. When they got the money they do no ship the product. There are lots of example in exoticphone history. Last time a German customer lost his $3000 and exoticphone never refund his money. he called them 100 times even cried to refund but they did not. this is one of the horrible history of exoticphone overseas customers.

Some time they change their bank not to refund to the customer money. I think , there are few hundred customers whose refund is still pending in their system.

They have only one web master only who take care the whole web site.
They use PHP open source oscommerce old version which is insecure for the customer because its easy to Huck the site and take the customers credit card information. If you browse their site u will see that their site is offline. though they r saying a bit for maintenance. they are lair.

They do not pay their employees properly and timely. most of the employees are up set on them. They fire people within 1 day notice. and do not pay their salary at the end of their jobs.

Before you buy from exoticphone.com ,please be confirmed that you are in the right place. u can lost your money and your credit card information and it can go in the hand of Hackers.

Please tell your friend not to buy from exoticphone.com

have a nice day
X employee of exoticphone.com

(please please Do not stop posting your writing till the exoticphone.com shut down their business otherwise many people will lost his/her money by buying phones from them) if any one want to know more about jay or bill or their business, don't hesitate to ask me. i must reply u
