Will NewEgg refund this processor in this state of being?
Hello, guys!
From you who have had experience with NewEgg RMA's, could you please tell me your opinions about this?
I've bought a X2 3800+ processor which socket is 939, but what I really wanted was the same processor but in socket AM2, the price is just $1.50 of difference, that's why I chose the wrong one.
Then, I would like to refund this socket 939 processor to buy the one for socket AM2, but I already throwed the processor's box in which it came and I only have these (look at the pic). Do you think they will refund me the processor or not?
Thanks in advance!

You know you would have to purchase an AM2 motherboard, as well as DDR2 memory(unless you got the AsROCK which accepts DDR memory as well)
As far as the RMA, you should contact newegg and find directly from them.

No. We do not exchange RMA items for different items. We will only replace an RMA'd item with a an identical replacement item of the same make and model. If the return policy period for a refund has not yet expired, you can request an RMA Refund (subject to 15% restocking fee), order a new item, and we'll refund your original purchase after we receive your returned product. | Looks like it will cost you 15%, but, as above contact them and ask. Not having the original box may be a bit of a problem even then.

Personally I would keep the processor..I have mine on my ASROCK and it is screaming...very good processor and it easily overclocks and highly recommended by overclocking forums as the processor to get. As for the AM2 socket type...it is best to wait for it to drop in price and let technology move forward more before riding that bandwagon.

Call newegg when they're open tomorrow. They're very good about returns. They've made a lot of exceptions for me (depending on who you talk to). There have been times that I've been unsatisfied with a resolution (rude tech or some other problem) so I call back and get a different customer support rep to help me out. Usually though, they're more helpful than any other store I've dealt with (even b&m stores). Hope it works out well for you .

Here's my experience with New Egg RMA's and Gigabyte motherboards, first of all Gigabyte. The basic design of Gigabyte motherboards is probably good, BUT the quality control appears to be at least ten levels below awful. You, the customer, appear to be their quality control (at least a year ago when I had my experience with their motherboards). Board #1 worked well except for the electonic control of their CPU fan which had to be put in the 'continuously on' mode because the 'Smart Fan' aspect of it didn't work. Later I found out that that really didn't cure all problems with the fan as it could stop and now I had no CPU cooling. So I wound up taking off the side panel to the case and leaning a dual fan up to the case which cooled everything real well except that noise was horrendous. However that problem didn't really turn me off on Gigabyte so I bought another Gigabyte motherboard. This one had a bad LAN chip and I couldn't tolerate that so I sent the board back to quess who (New Egg). They sent me another board, but this board was DOA (dead on arrival). I sent that back quickly to get under their ridiculous 30 day policy on returns and they sent me another Gigabyte motherboard. Well, this arrived DOA also!!! Contacting Gigabyte's tech support was fruitless, so finally I sent the board back to New Egg and they refunded my money. I then bought a ASUS motherboard which went bad in one day and although we got another one we never put it into service because of the extroadinary hassle of bringing it up. So then I bought 2 BFG motherboards from CompUSA and they are absolutely great. I talked to a friend who had lots of experience with Gigabyte boards and his experience was worse than mine. So, in my experience, the two good motherboards are made by Intel and BFG. I am sure there are others, but I haven't found them.
As far as New Egg 30 day return policy is concerned, if you read it carefully and they were to follow it to the letter, if you were buying problem products like Gigabyte and exchanging boards and getting a string of DOA's, the 30 days would run out and you would be left holding the latest DOA (the count doesn't reset when you get another DOA) and be at the tender mercies of GigaByte. Not a good scene.
Another issue with NE is with sending them money orders to pay for purchases. They use to send your purchase immediately when you tendered a MO then they got hardnosed about it and started treating the MO's as if they were checks. No MO I ever sent out was bad and they could see that by looking in their records. Since delivery times now were ridiculous, I aboandoned NE and found a vender that will take MO and not hold up delivery. When I told NE that we wern't going to do further business with them over the MO issue, their attitude was 'so what'.

You can't hold newegg responsible for being sold bad boards. if gigabyte delivers bad boards to them, it's not neweggs job to do qa on them. That's a good reason to dislike gigabyte rather than newegg. I ran into the same issue and newegg not only gave me a different brand of motherboard that was $5 more than the first, it was almost 40 days after the purchase (they allowed it because it had been a string of rmas) and then gave me store credit to make up for it! As for their payment issues...They don't know everyone personally and can't make special situations for some people who can use mo's and ship immediately and some who can't. You can't blame them for protecting their interests by demanding mo delivery first. All in all, I STRONGLY recommend newegg to anyone in the us doing any shopping. I've deal with mwave, zzf, tiger direct, and newegg and out of all of them, I prefer newegg over the rest! zzf would be my close second |

All of my dealings w/ newegg have been satisfactory, and according to everyone I talk to that has ordered parts from them, they are definately one of the most lenient sites w/ RMAs and stuff like that.
