Re: NewEgg
I am a computer consultant and I do about $25,000.00 worth of business with NewEgg and other resellers per year. I have ordered from all of the major computer resellers and NewEgg is by far, if not the best, very close to the best. They have never back-ordered an item on me after I ordered it. Their customer service department is one of the best to deal with. The employees are polite and professional. They are prompt at responding to my emails. You can also IM them using their online IM system. They answer their phones. They send you emails keeping you informed as your order progresses through the order process to the final shipping process. They don't charge your credit card until they ship the order.
I find their "Egg" rating customer reviews to be a very useful tool in narrowing down a purchase decision between similar products from different manufacturers. This is especially true with motherboard purchases.
Generally if you receive a defective product, their employees are empowered to grant you a $10.00 credit to your credit card on the spot to help defray the cost of the return shipping. There are very few resellers that pay for return shipping up front. Dell is one exception that comes to mind. On more expensive items they can get a manager's permission to issue a larger credit. To protect themselves they have to put a hold on your credit card, or ask that you initially pay the return shipping. A lot of people never bother to return defective products, even after they receive an RMA. They don't care what carrier you use either when you return an item. On small items the USPS is generally a good way to save money. Just use priority mail or certified mail so you get a delivery receipt and a tracking number. The USPS web site allows you to track your package.
When you order a hard drive I recommend using FedEx over UPS, or order the HDD on a separate order from another larger order. UPS's sorting equipment is very rough on large packages. I have had boxes that even though they were well packed, arrived with large holes punched in the sides by the pneumatic rams UPS uses to sort the packages on to different conveyor lines at their sorting center. On one occasion a hole was so large that a hard drive fell out during shipping. UPS taped it up and left the package on my door step minus the HDD. As soon as I got home and saw all the tape I new I was in trouble. Figured I was going to be out $115.00. Nope, NewEgg took care of me and I received a credit on my charge card within one week to cover the cost of the missing HDD. I ordered a third drive via FedEx and it arrived intact.
I am all in favor of outing the bad guys, but I hate to see a reputable reseller like EggHead get trashed in an online forum.
No I don't work, nor am I associated in any way with NewEgg.
