I am very glad that I found this site (via Google search) because I am in the market for a rather expensive television set and shopsunshine.com was one of the retailers that I was considering. I guess that I've been very lucky in the past sticking with the larger, well known stores but for this purchase the price this place offered was very good. Now that I am aware of this (resellerratings) site I am going to feel more comfortable about making online buys. As far as the Better Business Bureau, I will have to look into them as another source. Thanks to everyone that posted here, I probably was saved many hours of headaches at a minimum.

A few comments...

1. If the BBB holds a negative rating for this company, there is a reason for it. Either the company did not respond in an adequate time frame, or did not address the customers' concerns. ANY company that does not respond to their customers is not a company with which I want to do business.

2. How about an apology? How about "I'm sorry you had a negative experience, I'm sorry our system did not record your order, but if you call me, we can work it out?". All I see is an accusation, and if I were the original poster, I would not stand for this treatment either. <SARCASM> Because, we all know, technology NEVER makes a mistake. Web servers are INFALLIBLE, and CAN'T lose an order. </SARCASM>

3. It sounds like this company is deferring negative ratings by "dropping" or deleting orders where somebody might complain. I have no PROOF of this, but it just SEEMS this way to me. Maybe ResellerRatings should amend their policy to include "soft" feedback that does not necessarily correlate to an order, such as pre-sales, that somehow factors in to the rating. If somebody is going to argue with me and hang up, I WANT TO KNOW ABOUT THAT before I place an order. I want that kind of thing to bring the rating down a notch. You can't treat people that way (NOT ME, at least).

4. YOUR DOLLAR SPEAKS. The most powerful thing you can do is tell somebody WHY or WHY NOT you spent your dollar with a particular company. I think that's the beauty of this site, and I think the company in question should take notice.

The real deal

I decided to browse their site for myself. I'm currently looking at HTDVs, specifically RP / DLP, and I'm VERY familiar with Mitsubishi's 2007 model lineup.

When I browse their site, I find that the model series is "WS" (All 2007 Mitsubishi RPTVs start with "WD").

From their home page, I clicked "Rear-projection" under televisions (upper-left), then "Mitsubishi" (top-center) as the Category.

Scrolling down, one of the model numbers is WS-65613, cost is $2,489.00. Here is the link to the television:

http://www.shopsunshine.com/item.php?item_id=1268

Next, I went to Mitsu's website. www.mitsubishi-tv.com From the home page, click support (upper-left) then click "Owner's Guides" (Center). The great part about this site is that they list all products by year model. I finally found the above model listed under "CRT Televisions", 2004 year model. Here is a link to the User's Guide for THIS model:

http://www.mitsubishi-tv.com/img/220030

Here are the issues I have with this:
1. This is a circa-2004 television being represented as current technology. In fairness, there is nothing on their site that SAYS it's this year's model, NOR is there anything on this site that says it was made THREE YEARS AGO (New models come out in fall). Again, in fairness, the tech specs are correctly represented. However, to the casual observer, the site makes it seem that this is a brand-new purchase of current technology. Examples include the fact that this TV does not support 1080p and DOES NOT have any HDMI inputs. (The WD-65734, 2007's DLP-equivalent model has THREE HDMI inputs, supports HDMI 1.3, and supports 1080p which is the current Hi-Def "Standard" )

2. The value of almost all technology depreciates at the rate of about 50% every 18 months. (As a rule of thumb, but not everything adheres to this rule -- especially since technology items typically have almost no intrinsic value) Therefore, I would expect a circa-2004 television like this to cost $2500 / 2 / 2, or about $800. I think $1000 would be GENEROUS. So, in my opinion, they are overcharging by 150%, AND they want $445 for "white-glove" ground delivery service. My opinion is that THIS IS A TOTAL RIP-OFF.

3. NO ONE ELSE is selling this model. I found ONE HIT on Froogle, "Home Price Club" for the about the same amount (NO SPECS listed, website was slow to load, but that's another story). With no basis for comparison (apples-to-apples), it's easy for this company to represent anything they want about the product, and charge any price they want.

If this is representative of how this company does business, engaging in potentially-deceptive practices, then how can we trust anything the company representative says about how the incident at the beginning of this thread was handled? The company was worried enough about PR to respond in this thread (calling the guy a liar AGAIN), but not to apologize, and not to try to work things out.

My conclusion is BUYER BEWARE. To those of you who purchased something from these guys, you may be SATISFIED with your purchase, but you might not have purchased what you THINK you purchased.

I will be HAPPY to retract or edit this post if ANYONE can prove me wrong on the points I have made above.

I found these guys through ebay when looking for a camcorder, and placed a 'spur of the moment' order with them. Stupid mistake.

They listed in Australia with non-PAL model (which they were happy to correct if I paid more), tried to upsell after the sale (despite this being explicitly against the rules of ebay), and despite assuring me that I could use a payment gateway to pay, kept on insisting that I call them.

I got nervous and searched around for them. Found plenty.

Needless to say I decided that there was no way in hell these clowns were getting my credit card details. So I told them that it was the wrong version, and that it was going to cost too much (with the hidden 7% insurance surcharge).

They agreed to do a 'mutual withdrawal' of the sale ... on the provision that I leave positive feedback. I talked back and forth with them quite a bit, and all it came down to was that I give positive feedback or get a non-payment strike.

Non payment strike? Meh ... who cares. I'll just reassure my legitimate retailers that it's because of a scammer and to wait payment before shipping (as they should anyway).

So screw them. Now the proud owner of a strike, and going to tell as many people as I can get to that their ebay rating is forged and they SHOULD NOT BE TRUSTED. They coerce people to give away their only means of retaliation and then don't provide any service whatsoever.

Oh yeah ... and shame on ebay for not protecting buyers from scammers like these.

purchased directly at storefront

I had a friend from Germany that looked for the best deal for a nikon D300 online. we met in NYC and he wanted to go to Sunshine. i was nervous but we called ahead and they said if we brought cash for the purchase they had the item in stock. we took the train ride out to brooklyn. the storefront was has a small showroom but obviously they run a successful online business. Our onsite transaction went very well. he got a great deal on the camera kit saved over $300 from BHphoto one of my favorite places to buy online. i cannot speak to their online sales but they were very friendly and helpful. in reading the thread i wouldn't buy online from them unless i connected with a sales person. the one we met with face-to-face was Steve Sax he seemed very friendly so if you have a problem email steve@shopsunshine.com. i think they want to treat people fairly and have positive reviews. they seemed a lot better than half the other NY online sales people that have no store front. their price was good but not the cheapest but they came through with the deal. good luck!

Thanks, "saturnotaku" for sharing your amazing experience!

i am with you, Shopsunshine.com does have amazingly rediculous tactics when it comes to showing that they are a good store to shop at! i shopped there and it was totally disappointing! they do have lots of amazingly bad reviews!

i mean, it's like they just genuinly don't care about the customer's needs or satisfaction. in fact, my salesman even lied to me just because he cared about making a sale!

i can't believe how rediculous they are, and the brokerage fees were like, STILL THERE! even though they told me they would be paid! and the duty fees on digital cameras are NON EXISTENT! AMAZING!

my salesman's name was ABE and I have never been lied to like that before.

NOTE:

saturnotaku - I assume you have also caught on to the two posters before you (see below). If I am wrong.. I'm sorry, you can message me if you want me to change my post.

everyone - I believe that the posters jane_gullible and CAshopper are actually ShopSunshine employees. This only proves that ShopSunshine is a very dishonest store.

It would have been better if I had researched this seller before making a purchase.

On April 30 2008 I've made a purchase at Shop Sunshine (eBay) for an "Amazing" deal for a Sony DSLR Apha 200 bundle. I've decided to pay via PayPal since they claimed to accept it (and avoid calling them and possibly having problems giving them my credit card info). The PayPal payment posted on May 1 (PayPal doesn't lie).

Since I'm leaving the country on a important trip having the camera arrive before my departure (May 20th) was critical so I've emailed them 3 times saying that I'd be willing to pay for an expedited shipping so that it would arrive in time. They bluntly ignored me.

Concerned with the lack of response I called in and mentioned the same thing about leaving the country and offered to pay for shipping. The representative claimed that it wasn't necessary since they would ship the item overnight at no additional charge and that I should wait for a confirmation email with the UPS tracking number and was promised that the item would arrive May 16 (I had called on May 12, then 13).

Again, no response after the phone conversation. The following day I grew uneasy since no tracking number came and called again early in the morning (8 AM MST, 10AM EST) to make sure it all went well. Then, I was promised that the tracking number was going to be sent in two hours and was given an extension to call (since it took me 10 minutes to get through and I had complained about the wait).

Two hours went by, no email. Called again to the extension, no answer. Waited another hour (simply out of good will) and called again the same extension and no answer. Called yet a third time but waited the 10 minutes again instead so I could get someone else.

Their response then started to get me even more concerned: "You should get your tracking number in two hours". Just out of curiosity waited the other two hours and called again. By then it was 3 PM MST and called to see what they would say then: "All emails should go out tonight at 8 PM" (hint... they close at 8 PM)

The next morning (no tracking number) called again but this time I was ready to take a stand. "You should wait another hour". I declined since they had told me the same thing the previous day. "You should just wait because we have your order and you'll receive your item".

I had no reason to believe that I was going to receive a tracking number and told the agent that it was upsetting that if the item was to arrive the next day then they should have a tracking number. The agent told me to hold and after a couple of minutes told me: "Ok, I'll give you your tracking number and your item will be shipped out today".

I became irate and told the agent that the item should have been shipped two days earlier. Ironic enough was that he began to argue with me saying that my payment took 7 days to post and it would take another 7 business days to process the order.

How come getting the money is easy but shipping it takes so long? And even if it does, I had offered to pay for the expedited shipping. Regardless, the agent continued to argue and raised his voice and was awfully rude.

I'll compliment them on their "attempt" to remedy the situation by "shipping" an extra battery (which I'm still waiting to see if I get it, let alone the actual full ordered bundle) and thanked the agent, but was still upset that they were so horrible at communicating.

Funny enough, the agent became so rude that I requested to speak with a manager to which he replied "I'm the manager, you won't get anything fixed but through me".

So, here I am, writing this review on May 18 waiting on the promise that the item will arrive tomorrow and complete (ups tracking number delivery date is May 19) and that I won't be heart broken by this unfortunate purchase.

And there's no way they can write a rebuttal about this post because it won't change their way they treated me and how horrible their customer service is. (without mentioning how confusing their eBay item description was - click on item, something else would show up)
