Good observation, flipper. Why did they not post their praise before this thread. It appears to be just contrived. Personally, if I receive excellent service I can not wait to make a thread.

Ok monday has came to pass and no word from them about my order. I also went to the website to check the status on there to see if it had changed and now it no longer shows a listing of the items i purchased, only my name and total. This is ridiculous. Once again i want to say. NEVER BUY FROM SHOPSUNSHINE

Hi Simon, my name is Chris and I found your contact info form http://www.resellerratings.com/forum/t120231.html. I would like to keep my order if my question below would be answered. I do not wish to call because I have a cell phone with limited time on it. Simon’s e-mail was the first e-mail I have received and it did not help at all. Please help.

Well, Andy I still have not received a reply and I know my messages are being read thanks to read receipt. I would like to CANCEL my order because items that I was promised / charged for have not been fixed. I also do not like the fact that Bobby used a scare tactic to sell me a $80 warranty for $250.00. So please CANCEL my order.

Thanks for the receipt (it is the same one that I got before). But it still does not help… it still states that I declined insurance, shipping is wrong and all items promised are not listed, please read the first e-mail and get this problem fixed. I would also like a managers e-mal address please. Thanks

I did by the insurance “ CUSTOMER DECLINED INSURANCE” That is why I paid $250.00 more and what about the “58mm Titanium .45x Wide Angle Lens” and the extra SD cards I do not see them in the receipt? The way I understand it when I bought the camera it came with 3 day shipping and extra memory before I upgraded. Bobby told me if I got the 5 year warranty he would upgrade the shipping, upgraded lens, memory, insurance, better battery and give a few extras with it. If this is not the case please give me a refund ASAP because I do not like being deceived. The 5 year warranty is only worth $60 and insurance is not going to cost $40.00. Please fix this and thanks for your time.

To Ben Massey

Dear Customer
We have shipped your product as you already know. Because you are in the military it was shipped via USPS. The tracking # was VF621824503US.

We do not have as much controll over packages that get sent through the postal service. We apologize for the delay in getting it over to you.

Kindest Regards,

I did A LOT of research into resellers hoping against hope that I'd be able to find at least one vendor that proved all the negative reviews wrong. I finally settled on ShopSunshine, which impressed me because their CSR manager was on some of these boards countering charges against them. Well, guess what gang? There really is no such thing as a free - or seriously discounted - lunch.

I was eager to pick up a Panasonic AG DVX100B and agreed on one of their packages on eBay. Once I clicked "Buy" I was prompting to call them to complete the sale. The first warning sign should have been when the CSR told me he couldn't complete a sale if there were different billing and shipping addresses (I mean, I have something like 10 addresses for family, friends, etc., on Amazon). The CSR, Josh, was friendly and connected me with the Photography department to complete the sale - makes no sense but whatever. The camera guy, Joe I think, assured me I'd get the package within 4 days (I was traveling for a shoot) and then said, "Ok, you have a choice between a 5- or 8-hour extended life battery." I thought it strange that if someone had a "choice" he would not choose the longer battery life and smelled a rat. "How much does this 'choice' cost?" I asked, and it became clear he was simply trying to upsell me without actually telling me he was selling me. Ok, sloppy sales technique but no damage done - I said 'no' and we moved on. He asked for my credit card number and then said, "Ok, now as you know from our website your package needs insurance." I thought, Well sure it would and they no doubt insure it since, until I take receipt, it's THEIR responsibility. So he told me all the wonderful things about the insurance, about how if the package arrived with a 'cracked lens' or a 'hole in the box' he would be sure to send me a replacement the next day "at no additional cost to me." That sounds great, I said, but YOU'RE covering it, right? "No, we charge you $276 for the insurance and I have no choice he said, I must include it. It is a mandatory 10% of the value."

Well, that old sinking feeling kicked in and I immediately canceled the sale, noting they were pulling a bait and switch. "It's not a bait and switch," he said. "Well, maybe not by definition," I answered, "but if you're asking one price on the website, including tax and shipping, and then not telling me about the insurance cost until we're completing the deal THAT is misleading." Furthermore, the new costs added up to what I'd pay Amazon for the camera and Amazon doesn't charge me for insurance. When I told him that he said, "Yeah, but you're paying retail for the camera at Amazon." In other words, "We have to make up our costs in other ways by including things like 'mandatory insurance' for shipping."

Bottom line: Most of these operations are scams. If they're offering a really low price plus a lot of other goodies and beating the pants off the legitimate operations like BH, Amazon, etc., you can be sure there's something sneaky - they'll add "insurance," cancel the order, suddenly not have it in inventory, etc. Spend the extra cash on a reputable shop - you'll sleep better and get what you pay for. I went with Amazon.

Welcome to RR.
We already have a thread on this company at NEVER buy from shopsunshine.com.
([EDIT:
The two threads have been merged, so please disregard the link above as it leads back here. )]

You can also leave a review here at RR.

This company has a rating here at RR of ~8.15 out of 10 with 915 reviews since NOV2002.

Pricegrabber.com gives them a ~4.15 out of 5 with 1936 reviews.

However, the BBB report says,
Quote:
Based on BBB files, this business has an unsatisfactory record with the Bureau, because there is a pattern of complaints, and the business has not corrected the underlying reason for the complaints.
The 'unsatisfactory rating' is diffidently due to the 'No Response' by the company to 16 complaints over a 3 year period, plus some other matters. A 'No Response' is inexcusable, one or two I can understand as they may have been overlooked. Since they have only had 104 complaints total, that works out to around a 15% chance that any problems you encounter with this company may just be ignored. Other problem areas per the BBB report seem to be, from most to least complaints; Delivery Issues, Credit or Billing Disputes, Refund Practices, and Selling Practices.

I can't say I would use/or recommend this company due to those 16 complaints despite their above avg. reviews.

I also found it interesting that ShopSunshine responded to Ben Massey's post requesting a tracking number from the end of January in July. A little late on the delivery, eh?

ShopSunshine salesmen outright lie for the sale

I was told by ShopSunshine that if I bought the extended warranty for my SLR then brokerage and duty fees would be covered. Salesman Abe told me that duty fees were normally $80 as well as sensor cleaning (which would come free with this warranty).

The truth is,
1. there are NO duty fees on digital cameras coming to Canada (from anywhere)
2. sensor cleaning is available locally for ~$35

so I called them, wanting to refund the $239 warranty.

I was told again that duty and brokerage were covered. I replied with my new found knowledge about duty fees. Then I was quickly passed to a manager. Manager Chris told me that brokerage fees are usually $100-$150. I don't know about this. The shipping invoice that I got says brokerage fees are a mere $7.

Anyways, I am still waiting for my refund.

Customer service is terrible. I highly recommend that you shop elsewhere.

I would not be surprised if the positive posts on this forum are in fact from employees.

UPDATE: I got the refund back from my warranty, a full 3 weeks later. The brokerage fees were $42.99 of which $35 is tax. Still a long ways off of $150.

ShopSunshine forcing positive reviews

You'll notice that they have quite a bit of positive feedback on eBay too. Here is my experience:

when calling about refunding my warranty, I was told that I would be charged a 15% restocking fee. I told them that this should not be, since I was mislead entirely, about the costs of brokerage and duty fees.

A manager named Chris told me that I could avoid the 15% restocking fee by leaving positive feedback for them on eBay.

As I did, he told me to write specifically that he was the one who helped me.

I had an utterly miserable experience buying from them, and would not have left positive feedback otherwise. Look at their feedback on eBay and consider how many positive feedback reviews have exactly what I described (a mentioning of the manager or supervisor).

This will make you think twice about the morals and ethics of Shop Sunshine
