Old topics coming back from the dead, but the advice is still sound: always use your credit card for online payments (and pay off your balances in full to avoid paying interest!). I recently saw an
infographic poster about cyber crime (in the UK) and it highlighted some of the statistics about internet shopping and unauthorized card use.
Another trick I've seen, instead of these scam sites asking you to pay in direct wire transfers like moneygram or western union, they will set up a semi-legitimate looking site and advertise products that are very cheap, almost too good to be true, but not ridiculously so.. on the payment form, they ask for your credit card details, so you might think it is legit - but it seems that they are not after your money (directly), rather it seems like an elaborate scheme to collect real credit card details, including your billing address and CVV codes, so that they can then use those details to fraudulently order goods from other websites!
Again, if you pay by credit card, even if someone steals your identity details, you will be covered by the card issuer, but for debit card and bank details that get compromised, it is a bigger hassle to resolve.
