To NewEgg NEW RETAIL = OLD REFURB

Ordered an EVGA FX5500 Video card from NewEgg earlier this week. When it arrived, it was so obviously a repackaged product. (Blue ball point pen marks UNDERNEATH the shrink wrap) Called NewEgg egg who started their spiel to get me to open the package, and accept a discount for their "mistake".

How can it be a "mistake" to send me a refurbished card in place of new retail, when you have taken the time to re-shrink wrap the product?? Scammers, the entire lot of them.

This is the second time in 4 months that I have received refurbished product from NewEgg after ordering NEW RETAIL.

Called EVGA, who confirmed that the card was a return, as it had been previously registered. EVGA was really interested in this case, and have asked that I return the card to them and NOT NewEgg. Apparently they have been experiencing this sort of thing themselves.

Moral of this story: If you receive product that is obviously repackaged, call the manufacturer NOT the retailer. Manufacturers don't like this habit either, and when they get enough cases themselves, the manufacturer will be able to better stick it to the retailers than any individual could.

It's happened to me as well. And you are right, they know full well what they are doing. The difference between full retail price and only 10 out of 100 refurbed cards sold as new being returned means more money in their greedy little pockets.

NewEgg = Zero Integrity

now I feel bad

I've opened and returned several video cards in the last month. Technically, they were then used. However, strictly speaking; they were lightly installed. Because they were never actually "used". One spent a total of 1/2 an hour in my PC which wouldn't even run it, except in safe mode. I even registered that exact model by phone, trying to get support from eVga to figure out if it was the card, or my legacy POS system at fault. Their tech support phone guy was so ...I don't know...I'd swear he was typing one-handed while surfing porn and talking to me. He was So bored, non-communicative and non-helpful that I just returned the card and went with an older one from BFG, which is working fine. I always assumed the stores would just return it to the vendor or something. Just a thought to keep in mind, it may not have been as bad as you imagined. True, not everyone is as careful with their stuff as I am, I make sure that every item that came Out of the box, goes back In, and not to put a single scratch on the disk.

I've spent over $5000 at NewEgg and have a cousin who owns an IT company with approximately a $600,000/year income who spends around $60,000 in one year at NewEgg.

I can affirm that NewEgg is no doubt, if not the best online retailer of computers, parts and accessories, then it is one of the best. I've never had any complaints, except for a single DOA motherboard and dents in the side of two very cheap cases that were ordered, which was most likely the fault of UPS or the manufacturer.

Only my opinion, but I would honestly suggest not ordering from anyone else, unless you know something I don't which I doubt.

newegg has great customer service and they do accept returns, there are far worse companies out there and very few come close to their prices and service.

Interesting

I work for an ecommerce firm, before we contracted with Dell to serve as our workstations. Our IT ops department setup 100 or so desktops based on components purchased from Newegg.Approximately 20% of the motherboards and hard drives had to be RMA'd for various reasons.

That was a couple years ago.....

Recently a friend of mine ordered a 2gig SD card for his Canon from Newegg .To his surprise package was open, it did not bother him until he tried formatting the card.

This leads me to believe as well that Newegg is selling refurbs

I made my first NewEgg purchase around May 23rd, 2006. I ordered over $2,000 worth of parts including a DFI Expert Mainboard, two 7900 GTX graphic cards, an OCZ 600watt PSU, an AMD dual-core Opteron, and a 2GB Kit of G.Skill memory. They all looked to be in new condition but after reading this, you can bet I'm going to take a closer look. Any product once opened should be marketed as such, as an opened box item, then sold at a discount. Even better, it should be sent back to the company that makes it for testing and inspection, then sold as refurbished. After all, most people return items because they're not working, not because they just changed their minds. It makes no sense for a retailer to pass off these returned products as unopened, new items, since the next person in line may have problems too. I certainly wouldn't want to purchase a new vehicle that had the odometer turned back and that is a Federal crime too boot, to sell a car that had its' odometer turned back! It should be a Federal crime to sell any merchandise as new, once it's been opened or used. Can you imagine buying a new pillow, only to find someones’ nasty drool stains all over it? New is new and opened is “used”, as far as I’m concerned.

I can say this about NewEgg, though; when I had a defective flash drive, they sent me a new one right away, with next day delivery and at no charge. They were also very helpful in getting my new account opened and my orders got to me in just a few days. I've dealt with another Online retailer previously for many years, that wasn't nearly as helpful as NewEgg and their prices were much higher as well. This is the first time I've ever heard anything bad about NewEgg and you can bet that if I ever get a used item from them, sold as new, I'll be on the phone with them immediately to complain and to seek satisfaction. I would not accept any discounts; I would demand my money back immediately, including the cost of shipping both ways, along with compensation of some sort for the overall “deception”. If I couldn't get it, you can be sure I'd never do business with them ever again and report them to the Better Business Bureau.
