I'ved ordered from Butterfly in the past and never had any problems. So last Friday (14th), I decide to order a projector I'd been thinking about getting for a while. It's a BenQ PE7700 DLP projector.

I call to make sure they have it in stock (like I always do for big ticket items). I talk to a salesman and we put the order in over the phone. He gave me an unadvertised deal on factory serviced models that are still new in the box. That being the case, I decide to get the extended warranty (ServiceTech) and I pay with VISA. The salesman was pretty rude and arrogant, but I am not there to make friends so I finish the sale. He tells me it will be delivered by Tuesday (today).

Anyway, so I expected an e-mail with a tracking number on Monday at the latest. Nothing. I was able to get into my account on their website, but when I click the order I get an error of some kind. The status just says processing and the amount of the sale.

So I decide to call them. An automated system answers like before, but when I try to go to customer service, it says they are closed. Then after saying they are closed, they recite the hours they are open on that day, which is until 8pm Eastern. It was 3pm Pacific when I called, so that's weird...

At this point I'm getting worried, to say the least. I call today (Tuesday) and get the same thing. No one answers the phone. I even tried the Sales dept., the Billing dept., the operator. Nothing. It just rings and rings.

So finally I call my bank. They are ready to file a dispute and will credit me the money and go after Butterfly for me. However, we decide to wait to see if it does get delivered today or tomorrow.

I don't have high hopes, though.

Anyone else have issues with these guys lately? I used to get great service from them. Bought several digital cameras for my company in the recent past and always had prompt service. Now after I already ordered, I am reading here and seeing a terrible review as of late. After all the careful research, I just had to have this stupid problem...

Anyway, new to the forum too. Thought I'd start with a complaint

Well, still not able to get in touch with anyone at Butterfly. So I filed for a dispute of the charges at my bank. Would normally be patient, but when I can't get a hold of anyone to know anything, I have to assume the worst.

Anyone in New York area able to go knock on their door for me?


EDIT: Finally got ahold of my guy and got a tracking number. See what happens from here...

EDIT: Received the projector on Friday, 21-Oct, and the thing works well and looks to be new out of the box. It was a different model than I expected (PE8700+ instead of PE7700), but there isn't any real difference between the two (the 8700+ actually has a higher MSRP) and I got a great deal on it, so what the heck.

Still enough a scare to avoid them next time I order something.

Weirdest thing for me is that I've bought digital cameras from them in the past and never had a problem and always had fast, problem-free delivery. So I never did any research on them before ordering my projector. Only after the fact did I realize how many people had been burned by them.

I count myself lucky this time around, but I won't be playing that slot machine anymore and I suggest others to do the same.
