Has anyone used SoftGhost?

They have the best price on this harddrive, but there is no record of them here. Have you used them?

DO NOT BUY FROM SOFTGHOST

Trust me. They lie, do not answer their phones and do not deliver when they promise. I finally called my CC company 2 weeks after placing my order to get a chargeback.

Thanks, I ended up just going to ZZF like usual. Better tp spend a few extra and know you're dealing with a good company.

Resellerratings needs to add SoftGhost to the site.

my experience w/ softghost.com

you can come to your own conclusion.. i've no idea what to think.

i ordered on friday august 26th. their web page says 3-5 days to process.. fine. 6 business days after ordering tracking data was posted and emailed, but only "billing information received"
after a couple days i called and got ahold of them. they said "hurricane Katrina has cause backups at distribution centers, sorry for the delay" blah blah blah.. a few more days go by.. i email, i call.
"one of our two ups barcode machines mismarked about 23 packages, and they're all sitting in boston. they'll eventually be delivered"
a few more days go by. still billing information only at ups. i begin to look at my online credit card info. they have not billed me apparently. weird.
i call more.. i leave messages.. a couple more days go by, i get ahold of them and they offer to overnight me a duplicate package, and if the original gets sent, they'll send an RMA to send it back with. but.. i'm going out of town.. so i say wait till monday the 12th. i get home on monday, my credit card has been billed, dated the 26th. the UPS billing infomation is voided. i can't get ahold of softghost through email or phone.
tuesday, still no word. i write lots of cancelation threats, leave a few messages and give the ultimatum, "no contact with you by 11am eston wednesday, i'm canceling the order with the credit card."
10am est on wednesday i get them on the phone. he's been sick and out of the office, and since HE was handeling my order personally.. everything about my order was put on his desk and ignored for 2 days. "we'll overnight it tonight, and we'll upgrade your hard drive from this: http://www.softghost.com/mx200.html
to this:
http://www.softghost.com/wd250.html

i requested this upgrade. so.. this is still wednesday. no ups tracking. thursday.. no drive. i call.. i get ahold of him after their normal business hours.. and low and behold i get a tracking number. the next day my package arrives.. 11x11x11 box.. "uh oh"
i orderd a motherboard and hard drive.. atx mobo..

so, no mobo was in the box.. i call and get ahold of them, tell them the story.. and they can't explain. they're overnighting my mobo tonight for saturday morning delivery.. i have the ups tracking number, but they dont' have a package yet (not unusual at all).
i look more closely at the drive.. and it's not the drive i think it is. it's the 8mb cache version, not the 16mb cache version. softghost.com doesn't even list the drive i got from them on their web page.

so.. august 26th order, and possibly a september 17th delivery.. with many phone calls, emails and hoopla. he did sound sick on the phone, he gave me different numbers to reach him at, eventually one was toll free...

so there's my softghost experience i'm in the middle of. maybe they're full of ****.. maybe they're not. if i order from them again, it'll only be if i don't really need what i'm ordering =) sorry guy, but it's been quite an ordeal if you read this. i'll call and let you know about the drive.

Firekist, your experiences were very similar to mine. However, instead of going with them for an upgrade, etc. I just told them to cancel the order and refund my money. It took a while for that to happen, but it did, eventually. I wound up buying from NewEgg, for about the same price as originally from SoftGhost (it was almost 3 weeks later, though).

I recently purchased a amd 64 300 venice there on december 20th. Checked everyday to see if it had shipped, still didnt by monday. Now when you click on order status it says the store is currently closed. I cant get ahold of them via phone, nor email. Any luck with this place? Frustrated because I couldve gone with another place, paid a little more, but wouldnt be typing on my sons computer right now...go figure.

Same experience

After two weeks of unreturned voice mails and e-mails, I sent a message to cancel the order and filed a claim with PayPal. If it's any help, I uncovered a couple of e-mail addresses: g.steet@softghost.com and o.dilan@softghost.com. I had no more luck with those than with the "sales" and "support" addresses, though. Stay away from this "seller"; I don't think they really sell anything. The dead links and "back to school" banner on their page should have been a dead giveaway. I wish I'd found this thread two weeks ago.

Update: I've studied their reviews and have a hypothesis regarding how they work. There's a consistent pattern: low prices, take weeks to ship products, frequently subsitute another lower priced product or announce weeks later that the item is out of stock. This leads me to believe that they don't carry any inventory. NOTHING IS IN STOCK. Instead, they wait and accumulate orders until they have enough of your money and a quantity to get a volume discount, then they buy and ship. If they don't get many orders for an item, it takes a long time to accumulate enough to get the price they need, so they arbitrarily cancel your order because of some unexplained "technical problem", substitute something cheaper, or just wait for the general downward trend in component prices to catch up to them. Because they don't order until you've actually sent them money and they don't carry inventory, they can offer a low price. This is just a hypothesis, but I think it fits the pattern.
