Got Mine Back sans Screws

I got my laptop back and for the most part intact...WF had apparently opened the LCD to verify something and closed it up without reconnecting the cables. When I first booted it didn't show anything so I went in to see that the cables hadn't been connected back to the MB. Got it back to my original issue but alas he didn't put the screws and bumper covers in the box.

Called Dell to order a replacement LCD which was somewhat of a hassle as you can get different answers/prices depending on who you call.

Inquired about getting replacement screws and replacement rubber bumpers pads that cover them on the front panel. Dell is apparently "out of stock"...supposedly someone will call me back on that.

Anyone have a good source of small screws? M2 and M2.5 x 5mm or 3mm size? I will check local Hardware but didn't think they came that small?

It's been a hell of a ride and next time I would just take the $300 repair offer I negotiated with Dell, but wasn't satisfied with. Taking into account my shipping charges to WF, frustrations on the phone with Dell and replacement parts, and lack of laptop for 4 months...that was a deal I passed up!!!

Alternate repair

I got mine back from Roseville PD apparently not opened. Still waiting on the DA at Placer County. Left my laptop with a technician with Dell, Lexmark service contracts. Waiting his quote.

I'm fixed!

Dell sent me a refurbished LCD panel which was simple to replace (they have instructions on their website) for $245 including shipping which came next day. They also sent me the screws/rubber bumper pads upon request that WF still has probably in his possession.

I too have gone through the portablecomputer.com problem. My ThinkPad was returned by the Roseville Police Department last week (at least the parts to it anyhow). Fortunately, I was able to put the machine back together and it works just the same as when I sent it out for repair (backlight in the LCD is still not working). I assume that the money is lost for-ever...an attorney I spoke to suggested that Mr. Forrester will just cut a deal including restitution but then won't have the money to pay us all back so a judge will sentence him to community servics which is great for the community, but doesn't help me find some cash to pay the next company to so the work I've already paid this clown to do...

...I've done a little research and found www.mmits.com. Anyone know of any experiences (good or bad) with them?

Got mine back yesterday...looks like he didn't do anything to it, other than to put an RMA sticker on it, and maybe power it up. Seems to work fine, other than the PCMCIA slot, which is the reason I sent it to him.

I guess I'm one of the lucky ones. I got my repair fee back and he paid me for the computer. This was during the summer before they shut him down.
