New build time

I haven't built a comp in about 4 years. Had pretty much the same box through college. I graduated and am making money now, not a lot so i'm still on a budget but I need a new computer. Moderate gaming, doesn't have to have a 7xxx in it, was thinking of something around a 6600/6800 or so.

Anyone got any recs?

I saw this mobo at the egg...

It looks pretty sweet. I think it's more than I want to go for a board but the ratings look awesome. I'd replace the fan anyway so that doesn't bother me. My main issue with the board is I don't need SLI.

I was thinking something around a venice 3000+ in it.

Anyone got any ideas or thoughts? I don't wanna break the bank, but I don't need a dell 379 special.

Do you have a target price to aim for, makes it easier to configure a machine. Some peoples idea of budget is $1500 others is $500...

Pick a case that you like and upgrade to fit your budget..
I would also suggest a nice heatsink as well, especially if you have any interest in overclocking. If your not intersted in that the $88 pack 1GB of corsair value memory would be a great choice.

As far as the hard drive goes will I notice a significant difference between the old style IDE ATA 133 and the SATA?

No there is not significant difference though SATA is the future and would be worthwhile in a new rig.

Okay been looking around at some stuff. All of the heat sinks seem to get amazing reviews... Anyone got any suggestions?

Been looking at the Thermaltake A1838 Venus Silent Boost K8 or the Venus 12. Anyone know how loud the venus 12 acutally gets? The computer is in my bedroom and I'd rather not have to turn it off at night but usually noise like that doesn't bother me.

I would highly recommend the aluminum version of the XP-90 or XP-120. Both can be found at www.svc.com for much cheaper than most other places. Either of them allow you to buy your own fan so you can control the noise you want vs. the performance (if your overclocking) you need.

I have XP-120 - it rocks !
Buy it if you have the chance.
