DVD Burner Recommendations, please.

i want to buy my 1st (& last) DVD Burner...i don't know anything about the technology, yet, but i want to make sure i get EVERY spec./format available so i don't regret my purchase a month later.
i'm looking for white bezel internal IDE with DVD burning/playing & CDRW burning software, & IDE ribbon included.
anybody care to recommend what they use? TIA

I have the NEC 3520a... that and the NEC 3540 are pretty much the ultimate budget DVD burners, IMO...

they burn every format out there (CD-R, CD-RW, DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD-RW, DVD+RW, DVD DL +R), and will support newer formats (DVD DL -R) with firmware updates.

they are also plenty fast and don't seem to care about what media I stick in it, as even the cheapest crap is burned flawlessly (such as the 25 pack of 8x DVD+R I got for $8 at CC).

They range in price from $35 - $45, but are sold OEM - that is, no IDE ribbon, no software. If you're on a budget though, you just can't pass these up

If you have more money to spend, you should probably look at Plextor or Pioneer, although I don't have any experience with them.

I second the NEC 35xx series, I have a 3500ag, it has performed flawlessly so far. Unfortunately however, the NEC drives are terrible at ripping, so plan on having a dvd-rom drive to rip with.

I would also take a look at Plextor. I now your going to have to homework and look at what you want to do with your dirve as well as your needs, but Plextor is one of the best DVD burners on the market.

chalk up another vote for the NEC drives...I've used several, as good as Plextor without the high price.
