ResellerRatings Extension for Firefox

For all Mozilla Firefox users, I've created an extension that allows you to quickly get to the ResellerRatings.com review page for a vendor. While shopping at a vendor's site just right click and choose the ResellerRatings menu item. The ResellerRatings.com review page for that vendor will open in a new tab.

You can find it at Mozilla Update (UMO) (link updated 12/26/06) or you can get it directly from http://extensions.hawks5999.com

Verzion 0.5 is out.

changes in 0.5:

*expanded Firefox support through version 3.0a1

changes in 0.3.1:

*all names reflect ResellerRatings
*internationalization is accounted for (e.g. amazon.co.jp brings back amazon.com)
*icon in about box links to ResellerRatings.com
*fixed menu appearance to reduce context clutter
*lots of code clean up and commenting

upcoming changes:

*if search doesn't return the exact reseller page, the search will repeat with the "www." back in place (e.g. buy.com-->www.buy.com)
*more code consolidation

UPDATE: If you have 0.1 or 0.2 (or 0.3) installed you need to uninstall the previous version before installing 0.3.1 or you will have duplicate extensions and uninstalling the older version after the newer is installed will disable the newer... one time thing due to naming change.

I checked out your ResellerRatings Firefox extension; your extension is very cool and it works very well on my initial stores testing. Nice work!

However, please correct the spelling of our ResellerRatings name. The correct spelling is: "ResellerRatings" - with an "s" on the end (without quotes). Please cause corrections to be made accordingly, on the extension itself, at the Mozilla site, and wherever else needed, as soon as possible.

We're looking forward to seeing v0.3

Great extension. A real time saver.

Though I tried it at www.svc.com and it wasn't able to pull the listing from RR. But I then tried it after typing in www.svcompucycle.com (note: same site) and it did work just fine.

It also is not working with www.buy.com

I'll post any others I have issues with as I go along.

Keep up the excellent work.

It could be since there are many sites that contain "buy" in their names.

Thanks rrcn I'm working on adding exceptions for stores like svc and the stores listed as www.%name%.com instead of %name%.com.

I'll try to address any stores that anyone lists here.

If you want the extension to be Deer Park Alpha (Firefox 1.5 alpha) compatible then you will need to change the GUID to something like "reseller@ratings" with the '@' symbol or use a real GUID. Also the max supported version number of Firefox needs to be at least "1.0+".

Firefox is a pain in a lot of areas, especially downloading updates, etc. (firefox 1.5) All I get when i click on the link is that software is disabled in options, IT Isn't! Is there another way to get this installed?

The service provided by ResellerRatings helps you know if the online store you are thinking about buying from is reputable or if you should look elsewhere.

The extension allows you to get to the review for the online store you are shopping at by simply right-clicking and chossing the ResellerRating menu option. If you do a lot of shopping online (especially for technology products), this extension can save you lots of time.

PLEASE UNINSTALL PREVIOUS VERSIONS BEFORE INSTALLING v0.3.1. This is a one-time requirement due to some naming changes that will cause a duplicate extension to appear in the extension manager.
