Alienware Desktop Problems?
OK. So I saw the laptop thread on Alienware, and let me be another lamenter, who wishes I would have seen this thread before buying. Unfortunately 3 months ago, I bought an Aurora 7500. Ultimate gaming machine?? More like Ultimate POS. I am just wondering if any other Alienware desktop buyers are having the same problems as the laptops or what I am having.
Before I start, yes I know that I should have used my money and built a computer or etc., etc. But some of us out here, don't have the time or the know how to do this. So that is why we purchase a "nicer" computer and spend more, in order to achieve the goal. Unfortunately for me, that goal is far from achieved. At this point, I long for the days of my old Pentium 4 Sony, which I gave away after buying the 7500.
My computer never worked correctly out of the box (and yes, it was about 3 weeks late on arrival). Within the first two weeks, I had to complete an Alien Respawn and re-install windows. This to go along with a myriad of blue screens of death, lockups and various alarms sounding inside my computer desktop itself.
Then the real fun began. For the last three months, I have spent countless hours with the tech support, going through every test known to man. Rather than take the stupid thing back and fix it or replace it, they have me do all the work for them, in trying to analyze the problem. It gets even more frustrating, when you have to call back every night and have to re-explain the entire situation again. Now I won't rip on the tech staff as they were only doing their job and seemed to know what they were doing. But what kind of customer service is this. I guarantee if I bought a computer from Dell or any other major computer manufacturer, they would have replaced it or at least taken it back to fix it.
So during this entire time, the computer I bought to play games, will not play games. After trying different video cards, sound cards, settings and etc., I am stuck with the fact that I can only play a video game for approximatley 10 minutes at a time, before the system locks up and needs to be cold re-booted. Yeehaw. Gaming at it's finest. LOL
Finally, the determination came down from the tech staff as to what was causing my problems. I was told that I need a new motherboard. Now I'm no computer genius, but how does this make it through their "intense" inspection checks, prior to be shipped out by the pony express delivery service they use.
But wait thats not all. They will send me out the part and have a tech come over and install it. Theres another two weeks before that all gets done. Oh and also, I have to give them my credit card number so that they can hold it until I give them back the old motherboard. Like I would even want that POS. Again, customer service at it's finest. What a joke.
I will advise what happens after the new board is installed, but to be honest, I am not confident of a proper solution at this time. In the meantime, be hesitant prior to purchasing from Alienware. Maybe I am just an extreme case, but from the sounds of it here, it is not an uncommon experience.
As an afterthought, I want to add that this is not a "hate" Alienware post. I am just putting facts out there and am interested in whether others are having the same issues. If it seems like its rough on Alienware, its only b/c the facts make it that way.
