digital memory cards?

I have been using a SanDisK compact flash card. No problems at all. But I need to upgrade to a 1 gig size. I went shopping and found that I could buy an "Ultra" or a "Secure Digital" in addition to the plain vanilla "SanDisk" card that I am using.

Is there a major advantage to one over the other? Or should I just go with the plain SanDisK?

Thanks in advance.

What are you using the Memory card for?

If it is for a camera then chances are if you are using CF (compact flash) then you will have to buy another CF card because most consumer cameras use only one format.

Sandisk is a Brand and they have different models like Plain and Ultra II. The plain version is not ideal for cameras because of its slow transfer rate. The Ultra II is considered an ~80x card I believe which denotes that it is capable of max transfer rates of 80x faster than a plain card.

A Secure Digital (SD) card is another memory format. It is smaller than a compact flash card but generally costs about the same. They also have plain and high speed cards (above 40x) just like CF. There are plenty of Brand names in this area too, Sandisk, Lexar, Kingston, Corsair, among others.

If you are using these things for a low end camera, PDA or other storage device the plain version will work great, but if you have anything over a 3.2MP camera or need fast data dransfer pick up a High speed memory card that is compatable with your device. These memory formats are generally not compatable so it would be nice to know what the card will be going in to.
