AMD Athlon 64 3500+ PROBLEMS

I have a AMD Athlon 64 3500+ CPU with a ABIT AV8 MoBo an a RADON X800 XT Plauinum Ed Video Board.I have had this Computer abt 6 months. This past month the MoBo has started "Beeping" i have the Guru Clock installed, It tells Me that the CPU is overheating (165 Deg.) The CPU fan speed go's up to 3660 max. and the program closes down. I ran The Stress Prime 2004 ver. 26 TEST for over 1 hour before I stopped it the fan rpm maxed at 3660 rpm. THe CPU temp got up to 181deg. I was wondering if anyone has had this problem. Just what is the Shutdown temp for the AMD 3500+ cpu?

you should probably get a new hs. the thermalright xp90c, is an awsome hs for the price. Also, you need to get some thermal paste. Ceramique is probably the best to use.

165-180F is almost melting point i think.

Yea make sure you have a good heatsink ( the retail box heatsink sucks). Another thing to consider is overclocking, if you are overclocking your processor be sure that your crap is set up for it. Yes thermal paste is very good so be sure that you have applied that. If all else fails get a liquid cooling system which will significantly reduce the amount of heat exerted.

TIP: When applying thermal paste make sure you don't apply to much or it will actually heat it up even more.

Cheers,
Chris

Thanks for the advise The Computer is still under warranty (Alienware) I talled to a AMD tec and he said " The nexth time the Arlam go's off (Beeping) feel the heatsink, feel how hot it is, it might just be a false heat reading." I did ,and the hestsink was NOT hot at all , felt the same temp. as the case.I'm going to call the motherboard Manufacturer ABIT AV8 and find out what they have to sayabout it. Will keep posted.

I think now it's the ABIT AV8 motherboard , I went on ABIT'S forum and see other people are having the same problem using the AV8.

05/18/05 sending the computer back to the manufacture. They said that will find out why it overheats.

It's the Motherboard. Hopefully, they will fix it.

I had a problem with the Abit IS7 mobo giving false overheat alarms, I had to turn off the monitoring to get it to shut up.

DSatter,
Yes i had to set the warning to 80*c.( default was 70*c) so it would not go off so oftem. I been trying to find out what is the "Maximum oprtating temperature " for a AMD Athlon 64 3500+ CPU . AMD said that it depends on the OPN (Ordering Part Number) that is stamped on the TOP of the CPU. I called the Cpmputer Maker and they could not give it to me (said they did not have it)and if i remove the Heatsink to get it that it would VOID the Warranty . i found out that some of the CPU's range from 85*c to 95*c Max temp. i was hoping mine was a 95*c max . CPU .. i even asked about replacing the heatsink with a more efficient one. i was told "it would void the warranty" i think it's a bunch of bull.
