Need guidance in new HDD purchase

Hey everyone, I'm looking to purchase a new HDD and move my current one into another computer and use that computer as a backup but I haven't really purchased a new HDD in a handful of years so I'm very unfamiliar with the market right now. My motherboard is an Abit IS7-G, here's the link to the manufacturer's site:
http://www.abit-usa.com/products/mb/...ies=1&model=81
It says it supports Serial ATA 150 so I'd like to go with that. I'm basically just looking for a fast 60gb or 80gb since I really don't need a lot of storage capacity. I'm hoping to only spend around $50-$100 on this if possible. If anyone can recommend a good brand and/or model or just link me to a site where I can research the information on my own then I would be very grateful. Thanks.

these go on sale Sunday.

I like the 5 year warranty that Seagate STILL offers.

found this

I'd rather not have to wait on mail-in rebates since I'm kind of on a tight budget. I did find these though:

http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/Produc...tCode=100590-2
I'm not sure what exactly the difference between these two HDD's are except for that one has IBM in the title and one doesn't. If anyone could let me know if these are good HDD's for the price and which one I should go with then that would be great. Thanks again.

*sorry about the new topic*

They are not nick named DEATH STARS
for nothing.

Would be my last choice.

That Staples HDD is over the counter and no Rebate.

I would go with a death star as a last option, they probably have the kinks worked out by now but you never know. Whenever I get a machine to work on and I open the cover and see a death star, I know what the problem is..

The old Hitachi HD's were good drives so maybe the new deskstars are okay since they are made by Hitachi now, id have to be convinced to try one though.

Sevenal gives good advice on the seagates. I personally have had little trouble with them, WD's or maxtors

The 2 Deskstars are the exact same drives. I believe the problem with Deskstars only related to one model and that was back when IBM owned the brand name. [now owned by Hitachi] I am not a big fan of Seagate but with a 5 year warranty that's what I would be looking at.

Look on www.pricewatch.com under Hard Drives> Serial ATA 80gb and there are several Seagate drives, 80gb, SATA, 7200 rpm, 8mb cache for $62 shipped. Just verify with the seller that what you are getting is a new one with the 5 year warranty and not a white label. Also if you go with the SATA drive you need special cables to connect it to your board and the power supply must have a serial power cable or you'll need an adapter.
