There are lot of Auction sites that have these scam artists. One clue is see how long they have been a member, most times it's only a few days. Check their Feedback, if none forget them, same if it's bad. If they offer to sell it for less or you get emails from others offering the item for less. Don't fall for COD either. Only COD is available in the USA.
NO Carrier checks to see that the item is what you ordered. If you do COD. Open the Package IFO the Carrier who delivered it before you pay. They will put rock in there or junk to equal the weight of the item. If you want some good examples of these frauds go to
www.overstock.com and look at their Auctions, they have a Bulletin Board similar to this one that discusses some. Yahoo Auctions for Computers is notorious for these scams.
If You want really good deals look in
www.froogle.com for what you want. They will have most big dealers including the real Ritz Camera listed. Froogle does not accept money for placement of listings. The right hand side is paid advertisements by companies. The left is strictly by an algorhythm formula and the most likely are listed first. You can once you find an item have it listed by price, low to high. Iv'e had all those tricks tried on me at one time. I have never lost a penny to a scammer.
Watch out for fake legitimate looking links from UPS, FedEx and Paypal, never reply to them. Always sign in on their HOME Page from your Computer, Never a link. Legitimate Companies do not email you for Password, Credit Card or other info. They have it on file. If in doubt call them.
This is rather long but hope it will help someone avoid losing their hard earned money. If it's any consolation the FBI and Interpol have busted a good number of them recently.
