Security Camera Supply - watch out

I just wanted to give a brief history of my dealings with Security Camera Supply, based in Miami, FL.

I won a Yahoo! Auction for a digital camera they were advertising. I was in contact with the seller right away and said that I would like to pay with a money order. I received a prompt reply and was given the mailing address. I sent the payment and waited. Some time went by and they hadn't received the money order. I called the money order company to see if it had been cashed yet. Nothing. After some more time, the money order came back to me in the mail. In my haste to send the payment I neglected to write the FULL ADDRESS. This was no fault of SCS at all. However, after this it gets bad.

I contacted the seller and explained to them what happened and asked if the camera was still available and if they would consider continuing to work with me. They said yes, and I proceeded to resend the payment.

This time the money order made it to Miami. After a couple days I hadn't heard anything about delivery, when it was going to be sent, what the tracking number was, etc. This was all described in the auction as info being supplied by the seller. I called the money order company and found out that my money order HAD in fact been cashed a couple days prior. I contacted the seller and told them my money order had been cashed. Only after I said this did I get a reply saying the camera would be shipped. Okay great.

A couple more days and still no word. I sent another email asking the status. I am told that the camera was misplaced and that it would go out "this Friday.". After the weekend I still have not heard if it was shipped or what the tracking number should be. After a considerable amount of time, I am still without a camera. As of today I am unable to get a reply via email or phone from this place. At one point I sent an email via their website and was assured that someone would check on my order and get back to me. I have not heard anything since that email.

So basically these guys have lied to me and taken my money. I also searched online for the person I was working with and found another person who had a similar experience. It also sounds like this person is banned from using PayPal and eBay. (Of course I find this out after I have worked with them!).

If you feel you need to buy from Security Camera Supply, please do so with caution.

Because of this experience, I have filed a complaint with Yahoo! Auctions and the IFCC. If you have any other suggestions, please let me know. I would appreciate it.

Thank you for your time,

Adam E.

In the future pay with a credit card, that way you have some recourse. I have never been denied credit for something I disputed with Mastercard.

That's a very good point.

For me, it was my first major online purchase and I felt uncomfortable giving out my CC number. In hindsight, would I have been better off using a CC? Maybe
But something warns me that if this company is blatantly doing acts of theft, what would they have done with my CC number?

In any case, a lesson learned. Thanks for reading my story and for the suggestions, appreciate it.
