Wrong amount of RAM sent

I have just bought 256mb 133mhz SD of RAM (Kingston) from Ebuyer in a nice plastic package with a sticker showing 256mb with my Visa for £33. Once I installed it my packard bell club 80 the sysytem info showed 192MB of RAM including the 62MB already installed. So I used their mailing system to contact them explainging this and to ask what to do.

Unfortunetly I have just checked out the store on this site and it does not look good the reports have informed me that contacting Ebuyer is via email only and they will not get back to you as their system does not work or they ignor you.

I know it's early days but whats the best way around this if this happens as it does not look good at the moment.

Do you have "Buyer Protection" with your Visa card? I would at least contact the company you purchased it from by letter and phone and/or e-mail. You should then contact your credit card company and let them know you tried to contact them and if they didn't respond tell them. Your credit card company should refund your money.

Good luck.

It may be the motherboard does not handle high density RAM. If the RAM is a single sided module, it is likely to be high density RAM. High density RAM will typically show as half the amount of RAM that is on the stick. To resolve this and have the computer use the total quantity, you would need a stick of low density RAM. These are usually more expensive as well.

The net is that your piece of RAM is probably the correct size, but the MB is not fully compatible with it.

Misc High/Low Density

Thanks for both of your replys, looking at the specs searching in google the mother board can hold up to 512mb, but not sure whether it uses low or high density I have a Brio BAX pentium 3 also and it has a 256mb board that is double sided and a 64mb single sided , is it possible to swap the memory around as a solution. looks like I will just have to take the pill and return it and get the right one.

I have not had a reply yet from Ebuyer, interesting to see if they will come back with the same response as you.
