newegg.com & chiefvalue.com are same company
I'm convinced these are two faces of the same company, even though there's some minor differences in prices and shipping rates.
My evidence:
* Whois shows identical DNS info for the two sites, even though everything else indicates opposite coasts.
* They use identical inventory numbers (pick a product on one side, cut the number out of the URL, stick it in the search window of the other site and you get the same product)
* What's in and out of stock is identical, which says they have only one inventory system. (I had notification requests with both for a motherboard, and they both alerted with nearly identical emails at nearly the same time -- this is what made me look further)
* What's stocked is the same...no brand differences.
* The same return policies (check out the LCD 8-pixel policy, for instance).
I don't know if they started out as two companies and one bought the other, or if they're trying to create the apperance of competition with each other, or what.

More proof.
I've made a few purchases from ChiefValue.com, and here's the mail header from the confirmation messages:

That right there is proof enough for me; they are using each other's outgoing mail servers? Interesting!

I'm convinced, too. The contact info listed on Chief Value is Whittier, Ca, while Newegg's is City of Industry...according to Yahoo! Maps, those cities are just 7.6 miles apart.
Glad to know about Chief Value...I was thinking about buying another stick of RAM...it's cheaper from CV by about $5. |

So the moral/point of this thread is that competition is good? Sure looks like it.
Many if not most major manufactures re-brand their products to capture different markets. Many Ford/Mercury/Lincoln - Chevrolet/Buick/GMAC/Oldsmobile
Automobiles/trucks are basically the same thing with different names/price stickers.

Looks like ChiefValue has a better rating with the BBB, as seen here. While Newegg is much worse, as seen here. Although that means little to me; I 've been a shopper at Newegg for quite some time, and wouldn't hesitate to buy from them again.

One point I should make is that listing there BBB records would not be an acurate example of the diffences between the two. Newegg's record started in 2001 where CV started just end of last year. They have not been open near as long, so of corse there record is mutch shorter.

I wonder if CV sensors negative product reviews also...
A problem I have with newegg won't go away by going with CV as my issue with newegg is the insane return rate I have with them. It's a good thing they have a lax return policy, because a lot of their items need returned, which you can see from so many "thanks for the easy return" reviews. Since the two share inventory, that problem is likely to remain.

did you try asking?
hearing this rumor many times i have been in touch with Minh Ho of Chief Value.
'Dear ******,
Thank you for your recent email. Chiefvalue is in fact not related to Newegg. We are owned by Two separate owners, neither of which are Newegg. However there is always some confusion as we use the same distribution warehouse as they do. This is very similar to as if a distribution warehouse that sells to both Circuit City and Best Buy, but are not the same company. I hope I have been able to answer your questions the best I can. If you have any further questions, feel free to send us an email or give us a call at 1-888-611-4165. Thank you.
Sincerely,
Minh Ho
Customer Service Representative "
is her responce.
i am begining to feel that this rumour(and thats all it is) is all that is sponserd by newegg.
