Beware of Best Buy Exchange Policy

I purchased a wireless Linksys router at Best Buy (Princeton NJ). After 30 days router malfunctioned. Spent hrs. on phone and 3 people later with Linksys customer service (in India)we determined router was defective. Took router and all original packaging and receipt to best Buy for even exchange. Customer service person took a look at my paperwork and directed me to pick out another router and bring it back to counter for exchange. Returned to counter, saw a different customer service person. He took another look at my receipt and said no exchange possible. Purchase was more than 30 days ago (45 to be exact). I very politely and busineslike discuseed the stiuation with him but got nowhere. Asked to speak with the store manager. A very non management looking person appeared and identified himself as the store manager. After a very brief discussion he told me no exchange after 30 days. He abruptly turned his back toward me and walked back into his office. I contacted corporate customer service and received the same corporate BS response. Though, they did advise me to contact Linksys and see what they would do for me. Bottom line is be very wary of anything you purchase at Best Buy. Luckily this was only a $100 item and not a big screen TV or computer. Essentially, unless you buy their BS extended warranty (a huge money maker for Best Buy) you are screwed. They do not stand behind the products they sell. There happens to be a Walmart across the mall from the Best Buy, out of curiosity I stopped in there to see if they carried routers. They actually carried a fairly large selection of routers including the Linksys product line. I tracked down a manager and asked him what would Walmart's policy be if I bought a router and after 6 months (not 45 days) it stopped working? His answer was no problem, just bring it back for an exchange, and the exchange would be easier if I still had the receipt. SCREW YOU BEST BUY.

Misc Walmart yes

Ditto on Walmart. They'll take back anything if you have a receipt.
