It would be best to look for P-M laptops, they offer better battery life and are usually used in lighter wiegh packages. Don't worry too much about compairing Ghz between the P4 and the P-M as the latter can perform the same or better at a much lower Ghz rating. 1.5Ghz P-M would do nicely. As a second choice a P4 of at least 2.4Ghz would probably ok.

Look for 512MB of RAM or look into upgrading soon after. DVD/CDRW combo drives is almost a must have for college students these days so you may want to check into that.

As for the models to avoid..... If the latop sports the features above (especially the CPU) there will be no need to avoid it regardless of the model.

Dell Laptops

Have been looking for a Laptop and have seen what seems to be great prices on Dell outlet. (mostly 5160, 1150,1000 models and once in a while 600, 700 and 8600's)

Has anyone bought one from them? Are there models I should avoid from this list? It'll just be used by our daughter to surf the web, email, and so on from College.

Would appreciate any feedback in helping us. We know nothing about laptops but have been told to avoid Celeron so we're avoiding them. Most are P4 and P M

Thank you very much
