Computer for non-gamer sick of mass market

I'm looking for a computer for digital music, photos, and movies. I have tired of dealing with HP, Dell, etc. and decided that a 'botique' manufacturer would be the way to go. I don't need the absolute latest/fastes machine. I want a quality machine that will work and customer service to back it up. Based on what i've read here, I've narrowed it to Velocity Micro, Voodoo, and Falcon. Also, if I'm not a gamer is Intel better for these apps? It seems that AMD is very popular among gamers but was wondering if Intel was better for multimedia stuff. Thanks for any input.

I have been extremely happy with my dealings with Envision Computers. I think the real name is Envision Computer Solutions (ECS) but they are traceable in the ratings. They always have some specials or you can configure a system to your liking.

If you're not a gamer, then there is probably not a reason to go with those super high priced botique shops. Better computers could probably be had at a local shop. Or better yet built by you (which I would highly recommend.).

As far as the Intel vs AMD, don't really worry about that they both have more than enough power for multimedia apps. For general use I'd recommend looking for something around an Athlon 64 3200+.

A more reasonably price "smaller" online retailer is www.monarchcomputer.com.

Falcon NW has a system called Talon, about $1000 and you get quality tech support just like other $4000+ rigs, but without the fancy and most current technologies, besides Falcon NW, I think you can consider those too:

Don't even get me started with Dell, HP, and Gateway (even worse)

edit: For multimedia, I forgot to mention BOXX
