It is intereseting that some of you apparently skimmed my letter, and then posted anyway...
One person said, "Maybe it is the media." So, do you think I burned 20 disks of the exactly same media with the exact same settings and then decided it did not work? I had 4 or 5 different types of disks, all which had worked fine with my other burner.
I did some reading on line before I sent the defective writer back. Some recommendations said "Don't run any other programs" and others said, "Record at the slowest speed." I also have Nero and some other burning program. So, I did not want to return the burner. I wanted to make it work. So, I tried a variety of settings and a variety of disks. I even tried two different computers (this was an external burner). I did burn one good disk; but I was never able to do that again (had I not burned one good disk, I would have stopped around 12 disks). One person mentioned that they would have stopped after burning two coasters. Well, as I said, I did not want to return the burner; I wanted to make it work.
I realize that there are some people who read this and say, "OK, I'll just complain all over until I get what I want." That was not my approach. I had tried to get in touch with them via email and I mailed them a letter with the DVD writer telling them what I thought was fair. When I posted my complaint, it was at a point where I figured, Newegg is not going to even respond to me.
However, after I posted out of complete frustration with being treated unfairly, as I said, WIlliam, their rep, made everything all better. He was always pleasant and he seemed to want to make certain that I was satisfied with the outcome. Because of him, I did buy another writer from Newegg and this one works fine. There is one media which it will not work with, but it works fine with the others.
Certainly, there are people who are dishonest, and there are people out there who will do anything to get their way. I don't believe that is the majority; and that certainly was not me.
I think the important thing is not, does the company ship to you what you want when you expect it for what you want to pay. That is going to happen 9 out of 10 times with almost any major online company. The key is, what happens when there is a problem. What Newegg proved to me is, they are willing to go out of their way to make things right for that 1 out of 10 (or 1 out of 30) times that there are problems.
On the other hand, I am glad to stimulate the conversation as well as the give and take.
