Extended warranties with online Merchants?

I'm looking to purchase the Sony Peg-nx73v,but its only seems to only be found on the Internet,my concern is with the warranty, with my local Best buy for example I purchased a PDA ,and 3 or 4 times I had problems with the PDA,and when ever I did,I just took it back to my local BestBuy,and with the extended warranty,no problem, but can this be the case with online merchants? is it possible to find a online merchant that might have this picticular Sony product, and also a extended warranty that I can trust?
Thanks,
Wise~

You would have to find an online merchant that offers the product you are interested in, and then thoroughly examine their warranty options. A lot of the time you will be told that the product is only warranted through the manufacturer, which means you would have to RMA/ship the product to the company that actually built it, not the online vendor.

I had to do this with an old Albatron ti4280 gfx card that began displaying artifacts, and they honored the warranty and repaired my product free of charge (however, shipping was on my dime).

You can find very good warranties with most products if you do your research and do not impulse buy. Generally, Newegg has some of the best warranties around. If not, make darn sure you have a warranty from the manufacturer.

Totally agree with Stealth, you can't beat newegg. But if you aren't going for newegg, make sure you call up the company that your ordering from. And if they don't have a 1800 number, or even a phone number it's not even worth calling. Just remember, ask as many questions as you need, the sales represantatives are there to help you.

Oh yes one more thing. Make sure you do not do anything to violate the warranty, and some of them can be very tricky. Since you have to ship the product back to them, they have a lot more time to examine it before they decide to honor your warranty. (much easier to go up to an 18 year old Bestbuy service rep who doesn't know anything) And if you did anything that might void said warranty, they -will- find it.
