Mustek dv4500, mustek dv5500, mustek dv3500, mustek 3000

Welcome to my write up on the Mustek mincam. I am a owner of 3 mini-cam's and a major brand digital fro olympus, with a movie mode (no sound).
I'll start out with the Mustek dv3000:
it is a Still/video/webcam, tv playback. the outer casing as a silver/grey finish, and a black tft screen cover. The front aalso has a black fisish to it. Has a light to show you are recording , and snapping a picture and for the timer as well. he black trim is a great idea, but will chip away off the lens area only. the camera has a 1.5" tft screen, and a control panal consisting of 9 buttons, they navigate through all features of the mini cam. The rear of the cam has a rubbeer flap that cover a usb port and av plug, you would think the camera has some type of weather resistance with that feature. The camera has a sd card slot, and accepts the smallest to the biggest cards, the only problem you might come across will be how many pictures you are on if the counter reads only 999 or 9999. The camera has a 22.1 megapixal CMOS sensor, and at the highest still shot only will enhance to a 3.1 meg picture wit its software.THe still resolutions are as follows, as well as video
Fine 2048x1535 (software enhanced)
high 1600x1200
low 640x480
video
320x240 at 30fps, webcam 15 fps
The zoom is digital at 2x it is a fixed zoom meaning you cannot stream in while recording, only in a digital picture you may zoom in. Digital zoom is not the best zoom , optical is. if you needed to zoom in digital you will be able to use software in a photshop to get the close up of what you are after. The file format for video is avi and still jpeg. Focus range from 0.7m to ~ are just fine , but no machro shots you'll be able to take a picture of a page and still be able to send it as a emaile. The self time is a 10 second delay, and shutter speed is suffecient at1/15 tp 1/4000 second
Takes 2aa batteries and you may opt for lithiums rechargables, which will give you a longer life of filming. Now that we understand the features the camera offers. I'll tell you why I have enjoyed this model , and still do. I'll also give you my outcome as well .
The dv3000 is so easy to use, as a webcam. you only need to hit one button to turn it on, and the only bad outcome is no sound or mic online, you must use your own mic. The video the camera films cam go from 1 sec to unlimited (max of the sd card) recording. once you stop the video you must start a new one no pausing feature, that will be your editing in the software provided. The sound of the video is just fine , the only problem i found is when you are at a beach or windy place the noise can be very bad a lot of craking, the best solution is t ohave a peice of foam over the mic or you hand covering it. Never shhot towards the sun always behind you , rings will illuminate in your picture, like crop circles. Pictures are best taken in close to near shots , any distant shots are hard to see or print.. Viewing your pic and vid are a snap , the cam presents it in a nice slide show for you. You can send a low end video a good minuite to anyone, or a picture, that you might need to reduce the resolution if you have it set to high. or even burn them to cd and use an aftermarket software.. Would i recommend this camera, to anyone who is beginning in the pc and digital world yes indeeed. taking video or stills a perfect starter kit. software for movies, video suite6, and mustek software for the camera are included. it is a fine package to use, wish the software for the video would be better.

Moving on to the mustek Dv3500 your upgrades are great you have vga quality in vedio and vcd quality too 640,480 and 352x288 nd a low at 352x240 at 30 fps , and the webcam at 15fps with a higher lighting in the camera . both cameras have a night vision that allows low light settings, the video mode is outstanding haveing a 512 sd card inside and the extra 32 internal memory gives you 7000 plus shots, and 2 3/4 hours of video. in any camera you'll get the same or more or less memory, all depending on what you are shooting.. the screen size are the same, the body style is the same, the battery life is hte ssame. The lens is different , it'll allow you to snao a picture at 4x zoom and stream 4x in video , while recording you'll be able to zoom in and out without stopping. The only problem is the zoom you press to you you are zooming out , I would htink pressing in to you will zoom in. The blue L.e.D. is annoying at times but as long as you are not on the webcm it is ok, red is better, it is a less lit l.e.d. The software for hte camera isgreat , a drop anddragg, and easy to use with a ton of extras, again I do not like videosuite6, and would like to see an upgrade in software for newer cameras. overall comments. the 3500 camera takes a far better video, and the streaming record zoom will make the camera a great pleasure to use, but still missing a flash on it. takes great shots but to take a distant shot I preferre to use a better camera I trust it to take shots tht are within it limits and the video you cannot say it is the best in soundquality , but has its wind problems and lens galre, we know to face away from the sun and have a flash on is shade. So to take a pic and send it over the net you'll get 15 sec's worth instead of 1 minuite. I likethis camera and would recommend it to all , the beginenrs will love this and will upgrade and pass the old one to another person. grat camera for the dollar.
Mustek Dv4500 I really have no complaints ontis model. As I look it over I found that the aftershot , the pic you have taken does not show up fast enough but in the older versions , it is rightthere, you'll miss out on good shots ifa aftershot is not shown and that moment is gone, The flash light as called in the camera is the only thing missing, it is here Red eye was not added in, but for the newer version it has it, machrovision tops the camera off and that is the only thing that was not mentioned on the Mustek site. Once again stills are the same video are the same basttery life are the same for now, the flash might eat up some life to the battey , but you have the option to turn on and off the light. So to add more to the camera will only be more meg more vide resolution, and htat is where I stopp, the mustek dv5500 has those extras and I am happy I have drawn the line in this camera.
I am very happy to own al 3 models and would recommend them all if you can do without a flash, the 3500 is the one, but the 4500 has to be tested out to win me over.... thank you all for reading my review, and any questions are welcomed.
updated info, when using this minicam it is like a manual camera no sun shots if you take a shot you must be very careful not to face the sun, the machro is super senitive and will blur in a hertbeat...

Errr... a word of advice:

Paragraphs are your friend. Capitalization is your friend. Spell checkers are your friend. Grammar is your friend. How about this:

I own a mustek dv3000, and also upgraded to a mustek dv3500. I have also purchased a mustek dv4500. I wanted to post this thread to the people out there who, like me, were trying to get advice on buying a digital camera and find out how great this lil minicam is.

Each indiviual camera has different features. While I have all three, I wish I had the Mustek dv500, and the dv5500 as well. They are so small that they fit in your pocket or glove box.

Except for the dv3000, the cameras have a 7-in-1 features: video, still, mp3 playback, voice recording, webcam functionality, memory card reader/writer. All of them have a flash except the 3000, and 3500.

They all take great pictures and great video except the 3000, with its lower resolution CMOS sensor. All have great battery life: if you use lithium batteries in there... man it's like the Energizer bunny and never stops running. Each camera has 32 mb of memory built-in, except the 3000. They also have SD slots for expansion. A 256 mb card is great but a 512 mb card is all you'll ever need.

All of them have 3.0 mp cmos' ecept the except the 3000, which is 2 mp with software interpolation to 3 mp.

The 3500 and 4500 are 4 mp, software enhanced from 3 mp.
The 5000 and 5500 are 5 mp, software enhanced from 3 mp.

I couldn't interpret this part
all are fine pics are at the highest meg in software enhanced, when you are in hte normal, and econoy mode it is regular meg section 3 meg ecept the 3000 which is 2 meg..

Who can ask for anything more?

The newest camera, the 5500, has more features but a shorter battery life, a bigger LCD screen, and still shot with macro and a ccd lens(?). You are giving up a lot when if you purchase this camera. You are buying a camera that is redesigned with a built in battery and there are complaints of the navigation being too sensitive.

Well the 3000 was perfect, but the 3500 was very sensitive until broken in. It's got an auto focus and a new swivel screen. I would love to upgrade, but until it takes videos and they increase the resolution, I'll wait.

Thank you for dropping in. I hope my experience has been informative. Thank you again, and please ask if you have any questions...

Addition to the article. The Mustek software provided with the mini cam: if you own a dv4500, and have a dv3500 software. (dv4.0) the software will work and load all pic and vid on the pc or laptop, and can be subsituted.

I want to buy the mustek DV5500 but I have read that the Musteks dont film well with much or less light.
I want to film snowboarding so there is very much light and inside houses.
Is the quality very bad then?

(I'm sorry for any spelling-mistakes I'm not English)
