I want to upgrade my PC to the AMD 64 BIT FX53 but i dont no if i should wait to the P5 comes out. Would the P5 be better than AMD 64bit FX53 when it come's out or would it be safe to get the AMD 64BIT FX53??

What will this computer be used for?

Personally I'd get an Athlon64 3800+ as that even edges out the FX53 in gaming and many every day programs.

As far as waiting, Don't....

Get a socket 939 CPU and get on with your computer life. You'll have the Pretty much the best CPU to date. You will be waiting a long time for a P5.

well the big choice here is whether you want the power now, or want to wait.

Proc manufacturers have never been too great at hitting their own roadmaps, and sometimes stall horribly - even intel. When their P3's hit 1.3 Ghz they had to recall over half of them because they came DOA. Then the P4 performance was far below expectations (1.6Ghz's where outperformed by 1.2 P3's). It shows that most times even once they get the cchip out there, and actually get the numbers sold up, there is still usually a breakin period of 6mo-1yr before the systems are worked out. Along with that you have to deal with all new chipsets and any other upgrades (Rambus Mem, PCI-E, and a bunch of other crap they come up with)

I say if you need it now, get a AMD64 instead of the FX to save some cash (perform pretty damn close to each other) have the 64 bit power now, and worry about the P5 later in life.

You're better off going AMD for now. A lot of them are coming down in price and the entire line of their 64-bit processors are just wicked fast. Even if you wait for the P5, you can be damn sure it's going to be ridiculously expensive for a ridiculously long time.

Get the AMD

i am running an AMD 3200+ and it kicks butt. Also I think MS is still giving away the 64 bit OS for FREE for 1 year. I have it but loaded the standard 2 bit waiting to make sure the drivers are all "smoothed out". When it comes to reload time I will drop in the 64 bit OS.
Right now its smooth as silk running the 32 bit stuff. The P5 is now pushed back to mid '05. WE geek types can find a lot of CPU info from the the Wall Street crowd. Right now that crowd is VERY displeased with Intel delaying the P5 AGAIN. Most of the tech sites get the word from the Wall Streeters as the guys know what, when, etc. They don't look at rumors and performance gimicks. Here is a good example:

In short, go with the bird in the hand. Price shop, buy from a good reseller (as rated right here), a frag till the cows come home. Number one on my list is to set a budget and spend every penny to max it out. Do not get emotional and spend more. It will only be cheaper tomorrow.

I agree with Omar here.

Personally, I'm going to add an Athlon64 3400+/1mb to my herd for gaming purposes. Probably on a K8V board - using one now with an Athlon64 2800+ and it keeps up with my P4 3.0 (except with frame rates on my video), but what can you expect from a 1.2ghz difference. If it is afforadable when I make my purchase, I may go up a notch or two on the A64.

i say AMD64. the prices are slowly crawling down now. if you wait you'll have to spend a crapload of money (seeing as it is Intel) and chances are it wont be that great until they at least sell a few thousand copies and perfect it. like dehja said, Intel have kind of a bad rep for their newly released processors. i say dont spend a crapload on an FX-53, just get a Athlon64 3200+ or something around there
