newegg.com - problems

I recently bought parts for a new computer I'm building from newegg.com. I had some reservations about doing so because my best friend (a computer engineering major from Purdue University) bought parts from there and received a broken case. I went ahead and did it anyway and I also received a broken case. I talked to my friend about it and he said that another buddy of ours ordered a processor from newegg and when he got it, all the pins were bent out of place. He sent it back and got another one from newegg...but the pins were once again bent out of place. I think that this is ridiculous. I would understand if it was something small but all of this being broken is not right. I do not recommend newegg.com because everyone I know who has bought something from there has gotten at least one broken item in the mail.

I guess you're one of the lucky ones. I think it's crap that they sent OEM stuff just encased in bubble wrap...you'd think they could find a box to put their stuff in. My case wasn't OEM but the hard drive I got was and luckily it wasn't messed up. But then again I haven't been able to test it because my case is broken.

Hm,

I bought a lot of stuff from newegg recently, including OEM RAM and HDs....they arrived in a well packed peanut box....what more are you expecting? If you want retail-type packaging, buy the retail versions.

Sorry to hear about your case though, I've always had good luck with newegg.

Over $8k easily on the last 2 years and only problem as a dead motherboard due to ECS and not newegg and they exchanged it and hade the new one in 3 days. I have purchased over 20 cases from them without a hitch.

I'm sorry to hear about your recent bad luck with Newegg. As for myself, I've probably bought around $20K of computer components from Newegg over the last couple years and received all in perfect condition except for one defective graphics card and one dented case. They were very pleasant to work with in both RMA situations. They replaced the defective graphics card within 3 days, and as for the dented case, it was just one dented panel (courtesy of FedEx, not Newegg's fault) but they sent me out a replacement panel the same day at no charge and didn't even require that I send the dented panel back to them.

I'd say that Newegg has about the best customer service around for an online retailer. Did you speak to a Newegg customer service rep about your problem?

Fed-ex does play soccer and catch with packages. This could explain broken cases.
Don't know about bent pins on a cpu though. I've ordered several cpus through Newegg and they always came in a plastic container with a piece of antistatic foam rubber just big enough to hold the cpu in snuggly. Then the cpu, inside the plastic case, is wrapped in bubblewrap, and then placed in a nice big Fed-ex mailing box. The box is big enough to ship a motherboard in.

well.. where should i start.. firstly i ordered a brand new ati 9800 pro, arrived doa. rma'd had another one in a week. fine. Ordered a motherboard brand new again .. no dice, rma'd again came back still screwed up. meanwhile i had a customer waiting. bought another motherboard for the same system and i had to pay the overnight shipping and for them to get it out same day.
I've always ordered from newegg but i tend to shy away from them nowadays.. and another thing tried to order some dvd-r on the site tonight and the order process would always redirect me to login after the cc# were entered - no order confirmation.

I will be able to comment shortly on the matter as I will be recieving my first purchase from them tomorrow or the next day.

i do have a question though for anyone who might know. they charge tax for residents of CA, TN, and NJ. i thought that the reason for this was because they have distribution warehouses in those states in order to better serve the customer/get packages shipped out to their destinations in a timely manner. can anyone verify this?

reason i ask is i live in TN (nashville). i paid 9.25% in tax on my $300 order. but i was surprised to see that not only did my order not ship from TN, but it was split up, and parts were shipped from NJ and CA separately. It has been 5 days since i ordered, and my packages are still travelling around the country, whereas i ordered something from svc the same day, and it arrived two days later (from CA to TN).

i just feel kind of cheated since i had to pay all that tax and i thought that the reason was to provide me with better service. im not saying they are a bad company (obviously people have many good things to say) but i was a bit dissapointed.
