Yes this is a good deal. But I'm curious, Is this directly from the site or another source, because it almost seems to be "too" good of a deal.
I may also just be out of the laptop pricing loop, but it IS a good deal.

I agree with Ben.

Looks a little too good. Proceed with caution, get all of the information that you can, and check out the seller thoroughly.

The CPU alone should be worth several hundred dollars (?)

I can't figure out why they would load all of those powerful components on a slower Sis648 chipset board??

Just food for thought.

I found the deal on yahoo classifieds and I e-mailed someone who bought from them and he's happy.
It's brand new, but not directly from Alienware.

Whats the prob with the chipset board???

There is no problem with it. It's just not the best.

People have a low opinion of SiS chipsets due to bad experiences back in the Socket 7 days of computing. SiS has long since corrected such problems and now produces probably the best chipsets available from a price-versus-quality standpoint.

A better solution in regards to performance would be a true Intel chipset, but expect to pay considerably more. Unless you enjoy running synthetic benchmarks, then there is nothing wrong with a SiS chipset motherboard.

Rob's correct:

I didn't mean to demean Sis in any way. They are a fine company.

I just couldn't see a 3.2 GHz Extreme Edition CPU, a gig of PC3200 memory, Radeon 9600 Pro, Audigy sound, and then Alienware trying to save a few bucks on the chipset. (??)

It just seems a little strange to me.

Alien82 - keep us posted if you pursue this deal. I'm not in the market for a laptop, but I'd be tempted to jump on that deal for $999.
