There not really much to it if your planning on setting up a basic auction. Pretty much you'll need to decide what types of payments your going to accept--pay-pal bid pay ect... and you'll need to decide if your going to accept credit cards.

if your not going to accept credit cards make sure you state that in your auctions as well as reserving the right to not accept bids from users with little or no feedback. If using pay-pal or another online payment service make sure you state in your auctions that payments are only accept from confirmed addresses.

I'd set-up a freebie picture hosting site that allows hot linking so you can add as many pictures to your auctions as you'd like.

make sure you list any refferences {ie heatware beerology ect.}if you don't have any ebay feedback lots of times people won't buy expensive items from users with little or no feedback.

Where's a website for pictures like that?

Also what about preparing the item for shipping? Should I weigh it to get shipping costs? Theres some sort of utility to add a shipping thing to the auction isn't there? So people can see how much shipping will be?

there is an option that is included in your listing to describe the package..ie height weight ect that will calculate shipping charges or at least estimate them and then the person just emters a zip code and all the work is done for you. Its always good to weight it to be as close to exact as possible. One thing you might also note in your shipping is any handling charges basically to pay for packaging materials ect. if you want to charge for that.

as for photo hosting sites I'm not sure but I know there are a few. Search back a few threads over at TIMO and I know some places had been listed

the best basic thing to do is make sure you auctions look like something you'd be willing to buy from. Set it up with as many descriptive terms and pictures you can get. Make sure you include as much info as possible and if you have any restrictions on bids or bidders make sure to list it in bold

you can sign up for a spymac.com account and get 100MB of free hosting. It works well for my auctions.

You can also try photobucket.com. My friend uses that for his auctions most of the time. It can hold a maximum of 2500 pics or something. Give it a try.
