Lappy for Law School

OK, I know this has probably been beat to death.......but I am going to Law School in the Fall at Marquette and I need to buy a new lappy. I am looking at spending $1500 at the most..... here is what I would like to have,

either Pentium M 1.6 or Pentium 4 2.8-3.0
512Mb DDR
802.11a/b/g wireless card
30-40 Gig hard drive
DVD/CDRW Drive

now my major concern is that I want something that is both portable and powerful.....is that wishful thinking??? I just cannot decide between the P4 and PM. For the most part it will be plugged in and used for word processing and surfing on the schools wireless network.

If I go with a P4 will the wireless connection be comparable to the PM??

Anyone have any lighter (less than 7 lbs.) lappy's with a P4??

If you were to buy one which, P4 or PM, would you buy.....I guess that is my biggest hang up. I have read 1000's of reviews of both and I cannot decide. I like the mobility and weight of the M, but the power and speed of the 4.

HELP

If I were given the choice and all I did was word processing and surfing, I'd go w/ the M. I'd also put Win2K on it and not XP.

But, if you can find a P4 w/ what you want and at the price, get it. More bang for the buck is what you'd have.

I'm a big fan of Mwave.com. You can find some . . .

HP/Compaq

IBM

Sony

. . . all in the range you're looking at. If I got to choose, I'd go w/ the brands in the order I've listed them.
