Sold computer, person angry.

Ok, i worked at a very small computer shop for about 2 months. Durring that time i brought in an old iMac 233mhz and put it on the shelf just for to fill some space and look cool. Someone came in and wanted it so I was like "um... ok, 200?" and he gave me the cash. Being the nice mac guy i was i told him if he needed any help in the next few months i'll fix it for free. So a few weeks went by he came back cuz the admin account had my password on it, so i changed stuff around and got it working. Now 2 months later (i dont work there anymore, not paid blah blah other story) and the boss has him call me from the store and he starts yelling to all hell how he wants his 200$ back. I told him i dont have his 200 and i'd fix it for free (locking up when it boots) and he says "no no no i dont want it fixed i want my *explisit* 200 back. And i say it's not going to happen but i'll fix it. And he starts threatening me with legal talk and I probably shoulda hung up but i kept insisting i'd fix it and i couldnt give his money back (currently unemployed, got bills). Anyways we just kept going back and forth and he hung up. I'm a little scared he could find out where i live, seams like kind of a hot head.

But anways my question is am I responcible to repay him the 200? I guess i never said when i sold it "as is". I donno, this is just making a bad sitation worse with my old job. IANAL of course but just your thoughts.

technically did you sell it or the store (who got the money?) if the store did you are home free, you have nothing to worry about. if you did you have to remember and written, spoken, or implied garuntees.

I got the money, but how could he just bring it back and say "i dont want it" to a private party. There's nothing physically wrong, just needs me to look at it and fix it. If i bought a car from him and in say 2 months i decide i dont like the color but there's nothign wrong with it, i couldnt get my money back could i?

Ya the boss asked me to bring in something to fill the shelfs with, and he was the one who told me about the person who wanted it and sold it too.

(mostly pc's)

EDIT: whoops just noticed this was in the webhosting fourm, someone can move it, thanx

so you sold the mac and you got the money?

weird that the boss allowed that

but i dont believe he has any grounds that forces you to return the money.

Tell him "now way Jose". I've sold many used pc's and never give more than 30 days warranty. Usually I exempt software from the warranty anyway. An idiot can hose the software in a day. I sold one to my cousin and within 24 hours he messed it up so bad it wouldn't even boot up. Had to reinstall Windows and all programs.
If he pushes it tell him to take you to court. He will lose.

Legal action will cost him way more than $200, so I wouldn't worry about that. If the product was sold from the store, tell him to deal with the owner and the store's return / refund policy.

If the owner won't help him (tells him it was a private transaction between you two), then no returns or refunds policy was guaranteed when the purchase was made. You told him you would fix it for him if he had a problem in the few months after sale. That's what you did. You even offered to help him right now. If he's not satisfied with that, he's out of luck.

Oh yeah, and if the owner should give him your phone number or address, you should talk to a lawyer about legal action against him.
