I would rather have a Verified-by-Visa, than Wal-mart-hates-Mastercard-if-you're-trying-to-use-a-debit-card-as-a-credit-card.
Ever since Wal-Mart started their new policy (Wal-mart will take the Visa debit card as a credit card, but not for Mastercard), I've been using checks and cash only.
EDIT: Quote: Originally posted by speedstik Newegg = $16.00 free shipping
Tiger = $14.99 plus OVER $10 for shipping! (UPS ground) | I stopped buying from Tiger when 1 out of every 2 parts I ordered were "new" but were defective or wouldn't work. In one case, I ordered 5 floppy drives. 4 out of 5 would NOT work, whatsoever. One even looked like it was cleaned up and put in a new plastic bag.

| Well, that’s why then. If you never have any problems, how can you really gauge how good the company is? Just because you’ve gotten what you order for the price you agreed to pay and received the item on time doesn’t necessarily mean the company can do no wrong.
I see a lot of bad things about Buy.com and other sites. Although it’s been a while, I have ordered from them several times and never once had a problem. That doesn’t mean I can’t imagine why others have had trouble. Now I am not saying Newegg is a bad company (I wouldn’t want to be stoned) but out of the 10 or so times I have used them I had to contact their customer service twice, and neither experience left me believing their staff really cared much. I more felt like I was being a nuisance. In comparison I have ordered a LOT of other stuff from various internet companies and with the exception of one other place, I can’t recall ever having a bad experience.
By the way, the only other internet company I have had trouble with was I believe Tiger Direct. But that was a very long time ago. Maybe I am just having bad experiences with these companies to make up for all of the good/fair experiences I have had elsewhere.

In my family there's 2 cards, all visa and my brother's discover. Ever since the warehouse here in NJ - I haven't bought anything from them I really don't want to pay taxes, and there's other places. Lately, I've been ordering from Monarch Computer
I hate ZipZoomFly - what a rip, charged me ground shipping that said it weighed 8 pounds when it didn't even come close. 2 of the 3 items had 2 day air too Could have made me a happy camper if I had the 2 day air, but after they ripped me for 8 friggin' pounds, no way am I going back to them.

Order from Newegg 6 times a month for a few months, you'll get some headaches. It's almost guaranteed by the odds (though there are those lucky few who are ignored by the odds)
But I don't suggest paying much, or any, more for yer schtuff. Just shop around. It's not good to give just one good company everyone's business anyway...IMO, anyway. But I don't think I'll order another motherboard from Newegg anytime soon...can't for the life of me figure out how I got so unlucky with so many of their Mobos.
And I hear ya on their service reps...they go from washing your feet to wishing you would just go away in zero flat. But that's people. I know that RMA's are inevitable, but sometimes I wonder if Newegg's hardware failure rate is just a little too high. It has been for me...thankfully returns aren't usually too painful (though the cost does add up quickly).

I've heard about people having lots of problems with mobos from NewEgg. I've put together 40 PCs in the past few months for work - all of the mobos have come from NewEgg and not one of them has had a problem. The hard drives currently have about a 10% failure rate (4 have died so far), but I can't really blame that on NewEgg; more WDs fault. NewEgg's been great with exchanging them though, but like you said SiliconJon, it gets expensive shipping drives back.
I'm really happy with NewEgg's service - just unhappy that I'm being forced to jump through hoops to order from them.

I just built a pc for my brother inlaw on April 4, 2004 He order a Biostar MB Model:M7NCD from Newegg and he is sending it back tomorrow because RTC on the MB is bad. It reverts back to the last time and date that was manually typed. Sometime the date would reset to the year 1601. |

If they want my SS# to verify that it is me so what. In order to protect your credit you need to do two simple things.
1. Credit monitoring (ie you get an email anytime there is an inquiry)
2. List on your credit report. NO INSTANT CREDIT. (that way you cant just go to a department store and get a credit card on the spot.)
Internet commerce is really great. But protect yourself, use weird passwords, and keep them written down in a safe place, taped to your monitor is not safe. Make sure the websites you are using are the actual ones you want to use.
Do everything with a real VISA or Mastercard. If they empty your checking account its your own fault. With Visa and Mastercard, any fraudulent purchases are not your responsibility.

That's why going through a clickthru is bad. How hard is it to type in the site you want to go right?
