Motherboard upgrade question

Greetings,

I am needing some helping with a a possible upgrade. I have a AMD 2400xp, over 1gig of 2100/2700 ddr memory, ATI 9800 Pro card. As it turn my Motherboard has a front side bus of 133, How can I upgrade to a much bigger FSB without having to upgrade CPU or Memory.

well the boards with higher fsbs will run the cpu at the slower bus speed it just wouldn't be a performance upgrade but it would be good for upgrading later

You should look into the nForce2 boards such as these:

Abit NF7-S

Asus A7N8X

They will fully support your current memory and CPU.

You can find a nice selection of nForce2 motherboards at NewEgg for as low as $57.

ok, actually you may be looking at it incorrectly....youre motherboard has a fsb of 133....but that also may be considered as the cpu having an fsb of 266..its the same thing

so if you are thinking that your board has a 133fsb and you want to go to a board with a 266 fsb...then you are justgetting a little confused by the numbers involved (it IS very confusing, lol)

your board is running at 133fsb...the next standard fsb's up from there are 166 (333) and 200 (400)...but you said you didnt want to change cpu's..but it doesnt work that way...if you up the fsb you have to have a cpu designed for that higher fsb...unless you are intending to overclock your cpu.

if you want to go with a faster fsb..say a 166fsb then you need to get a "barton" athlon xp...such as an xp2600 or 2800 etc..they are designed to run on the 166 (333) fsb

Just to mention one quick thing, maybe your mobo supports a higher fsb.

I don't want to make you feel goofy or anything, but look for a jumper on your board that might change it from a 133 to a 166 or maybe higher.

Just something to think about.

What type of board do you have. It would be easier to tell you what you need if we know just a little more about it.
